Memorial Day weekend Mac and iDevice specials [updated]

It’s Memorial Day weekend here in the United States. Along with the long weekend, parades, fly-overs and barbecues, it also brings sales, for one reason or another. Mac and iPhone, iPad, iPod touch developers have many of their own to offer, so we’ll round them all up here as they come in. Just remember to get your head out of your iPhone when the flag goes by at the parade, okay?

Apple revenue grows by 71% in Q1 2011

With or without Steve Jobs, who is currently on medical leave, there seems to be no stopping Apple. The company reporting a very good first quarter in terms of revenue and earnings. And so, prior to the official live conference call on its Q1 2011 earnings report, Apple issued an official earnings statement. For the first quarter of its fiscal 2011, which ended last December 25, 2010, Apple posted a record revenue of $26.74 billion and record net quarterly profit of $6 billion. This puts the value of of Apple’s stocks per diluted share to $6.54.

As we reported yesterday, Steve jobs and his Apple crew are probably riding high on the company’s financial results for its fiscal 2010 fourth quarter ended September 25, 2010. It was another good quarter, with Apple posting a record revenue of $20.34 billion and net quarterly profit of $4.31 billion, or $4.64 per diluted share. Comparing this with the results of the same quarter last year will make you feel like Apple is getting all the money in this world. Last year’s quarterly profit was only at $2.53 billion or $2.77 per diluted share.

iPad hitting Verizon and AT&T stores on October 28th

There you go. After becoming the all time fastest selling gadget (as announced by Bernstein Research financial analyst Colin McGranahan), Apple will carry the iPad momentum to the store shelves of AT&T and Verizon Wireless. Both major carriers have officially announced they will start offering iPads to customers on October 28.

The iPad has certainly left its mark on the tech industry and changed the way people access the web and their digital life. Now, with an estimated 8.5 million units sold, the iPad is the fastest selling gadget in tech history, according to Bernstein Research financial analyst Colin McGranahan. Not only that, but a different NPD study found that 13% of people who own an iPad would’ve bought a computer had the iPad not been available. That’s pretty staggering.

Apple sells around 300,000 iPads Saturday

According to information out of Cupertino, Apple sold around 300,000 iPads this Saturday, launch day.This number includes preorders as well as iPads sold at the stores. Despite the device receiving glowing reviews from various sources around the internet, this number is much lower than anticipated by some analysts. Furthermore, news of the sales numbers caused Apple’s shares to drop.

120,000 iPads sold on first day alone?

According to a specific analyst group, Apple may have sold a nicely sized 120,000 iPad units on the first day of pre-orders. If this number seems strange to you, it may help knowing that their math makes sense. Basically, Apple sells about 16,500 orders a day online, but managed to sell about 124,596 on the day of the iPad preorder. Considering that about 1.11 iPads were ordered per customer, we come up with a number around 120,000.
