Updated Maps application to make debut in iPhone 2.2
Apple has made two important iPhone announcements in the past week, but both of them have gone rather unnoticed. The first is the complete revocation of the NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) by which iPhone developers were previously bound. Though there are still some limits on exactly what developers can disclose, Apple appears to have responded to the general hullabaloo that surrounded the original terms of the NDA.
The other big announcement is the seeding of a new build of the iPhone 2.2 software to developers. Aside from a few previously-disclosed updates, such as a reworked Safari interface, the only major functional improvements seem to be in the Maps application.
September over, with neither hide nor hair of push notifications
Happy October, everyone! Wait, why aren’t you smiling? Lack of push notifications got you down? Me too. When Scott Forstall first announced these push notifications in June, I was all giddy inside. It was an inventive way to allow applications to continue their purpose while not running, without consuming those ever important system resources. To more »
Flutter brings picture messaging to iPhone 3G
If you’ve been missing the MMS feature of your previous mobile phone since you’ve shifted to the iPhone 3G, and you got frustrated when Apple forgot to include this feature in the recent 2.1 software upgrade, then you have a reason to rejoice. JuiceCaster, which is more popularly known for its mobile social networking platform, is bringing the picture messaging feature to the iPhone via its new app, called Flutter.
Basically, Flutter lets you send free, unlimited picture messages, and even geo-tagged location of the pictures, to any mobile phone in the world at no extra cost to you except for the cost of an SMS message. The SMS message will contain the link to where your picture message was stored in JuiceCaster’s site. From the JuiceCaster hosting site, your recipient can then view the picture message using their iPhones or any other mobile phones.

iPhone software 2.1 beta drops push notification
Since the iPhone SDK announcement, developers have been clamoring for the ability to have their applications run even after being exited (currently, all apps quit upon returning to the home screen, with the exception of Apple’s Mail and iPod/Music apps). Knowing what a battery hog apps are, Apple didn’t provide such a solution, instead announcing more »
Apple begins to grant Push Notification Service API to select iPhone devs
As Apple announced briefly during WWDC, the Push Notification API has been released to a handful of devs, according to CrunchGear. This is akin to Apple’s iPhone apps, which display an more »
