Appletell reviews the Case-Mate DIY Custom Case for iPhone and iPod touch

Colors, textures and artwork are used to set cases apart, so the smarter companies bring in some high level artists and designers to give the case some flair. What they don’t usually use, however, are photos of your kids. Or a vacation photo. Or that glistening spiderweb photo that won you a blue ribbon at the county fair. Case-Mate will help you out with their DIY Custom Case, and they’ll do it in a unique way.

Appletell reviews the Standing iPhone Case for iPhone 3G/S

Do you often find yourself using your iPhone 3G/3GS to capture spur of the moments photos? What about if you’re standing infront of a nice view but have no one to take your photos? Wouldn’t you wish the iPhone case you are using had a built-in stand? This is primarily what the Standing iPhone Case aims to address. It not only protects your iPhone from bumps, dents and scratches, but also give you a case that serves as a stand.

How to add custom wallpaper to your iPhone 3G with iOS 4

Adding custom wallpaper to your iPhone with its new OS is a great way to provide an extra dimension of customization. It can also be a great big pain in the butt if you do not want to choose from the basic ones that come with the phone. Yet, it can be done with iOS 4, a little bit of time, the right set of instructions, and…a jailbroken iPhone. So, let’s get down to business and get you the custom wallpaper of your dreams.

How to help iOS 4 run faster on an iPhone 3G

Before I got my iPhone 4, I was running iOS 4.0 on my iPhone 3G, and I hated it. Even without multitasking and a background image, my iPhone 3G ran slower than I could stand for day to day tasks as mundane as sending a text. If you’ve been having the same issue and don’t want to upgrade to an iPhone 3GS or 4, there is a potential fix (outside of simply downgrading your iOS to 3.1.3).

iPhone HD coming to AT&T on June 21st?

Remember last year when Apple announced the iPhone 3GS? AT&T didn’t intend to allow iPhone 3G owners to upgrade to the iPhone 3GS at the advertised (reduced) price. After much unhappiness, they relented and allowed iPhone 3G early adopters to get the upgrade price they wanted. Well, fast forward to now. Looks like AT&T might be preparing to avoid that happening again by just moving back the upgrade eligibilities for current iPhone 3GS owners.

How I survived a week with only my iPhone (Essential Apps)

While Walt Disney World certainly is the place where dreams come true, it’s not the most tech friendly place; WiFi access runs $10 a day, which after three days would pay for your 3G access from AT&T for a month with a 3G iPad. Or, you could rough it with just your iPhone. I chose the latter, and these 3G friendly apps helped me do so without shaking in the corner as a result of my Internet addiction. I call them “My Essential Apps.”

iPhone OS 4.0: The Multitasking Myth

Innovation is the process of solving a problem in a better way than what has come before, and Apple’s approach to multitasking can only be described as innovative. Looking at the multitasking functionality reveals a rather stark truth, and one which iPhone haters will likely be quick to take up as a rallying cry: this is not true multitasking, where an app can do whatever it wants in the background. Apps can only make use of standardized background processes provided by Apple. In effect, the iPhone is still a walled garden—Apple has just added some new window.

Apple raises the roof on 3G download limits

Has this ever happened to you? You open up the App Store app on your iPhone and find a new game or app that sounds pretty interesting or fun. And then, just when you’re expecting to start the download: “Item over 10MB.” Well, that’s a thing of the past…kind of. Apple has recently raised their download size limit to 20MB, which should allow for many more apps, movies and TV shows to be downloaded over 3G.

iPhone 3G/S belt clip shootout

One of the features I consider in iPhone case reviews is whether it comes with a method to attach the case to a belt, pocket, purse strap, or what have you. Few of them do anymore, but thankfully there are a good number of belt clips designed to work with at least the slim iPhone cases. In this review, I’ll take a look at offerings from Belkin, Speck and Monster.
