The iPhone Dev Team releases redsn0w 0.9.9b6 [updated]
Shortly after the iPhone Dev Team’s release of redsn0w 0.9.9b5, 0.9.9b6 is now available for both Windows and OS X, and includes some improvements and new features. 0.9.9b5 was released for OS X only, as it brought the ability to create a custom IPSW, a feature which was not ready for Windows at the time. Windows users will be happy to know 0.9.9b6 brings this new feature to the platform, along with all of the other new features and improvements of this release.
3 Sweden now offering half-priced iPhone 3GS contract
Residents of Sweden interested in purchasing an iPhone for cheap will be happy to know that carrier 3 Sweden is now offering a half-priced two-year contract with a free iPhone 3GS along with it. Customers are given two choices in regards to packages, with a “3 Surf” package costing 99 krona (or approximately $15.36 USD) per month and a “3 Pott” package costing 199 krona (or approximately $30.68 USD) per month.

Apple to offer unlocked iPhone 3GS in India
May 27th of this year marked the launch of the iPhone 4 in India to its market of approximately 1.2 billion people, 41.6% of which unfortunately fall below the international poverty line. Despite this, the price of Apple’s iPhone 4 in the country is ridiculously high, starting at 34,500 rupees (approximately $760 USD!) for the 16GB model with an attached two-year contract. North Americans and citizens of other more developed countries would refuse to pay such a high price, as we’re used to the $199/$299 price points offered by our carriers (of course with contracts as well).

Owners of an iPhone 3GS with the old bootrom are now able to achieve an untethered jailbreak with the 2nd beta of sn0wbreeze 2.8 by iH8sn0w. iH8sn0w released the first sn0wbreeze 2.8 beta to bring the tethered jailbreak of iOS 5 to Windows users, although the iPhone Dev Team quickly followed with an update to its own redsn0w for Windows users as well.
Skype iOS app gets video calling
In a quiet update to their free iOS app, Skype has added the ability to make video calls over WiFi and, yes, 3G. Two way calls can be made from iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 4th gen. If you have an iPad or iPod touch 3rd gen, you can still receive video calls. Video calls may be made in portrait or landscape orientations, just like FaceTime. But unlike FaceTime, you can use it over 3G (if your data plan allows).
