Apple announces App Store Volume Purchasing for Business
The new program—called App Store Volume Purchasing for Business—is aimed at making it easier for enterprises to purchase iOS apps in bulk so they can easily share them with their employees. Of course, those iOS apps are geared for productivity enhancement, not the games and useless apps propagating App Store.
Developer’s rejected app now a feature in iOS 5
UK developer Greg Hughes had developed an app called Wi-Fi Sync, which as the name implies, allowed users to sync their iDevices wirelessly over a Wi-Fi network. Hughes submitted his app to the App Store and had it rejected. After witnessing the WWDC keynote this past Monday, Hughes was shocked to see that Apple had taken his work and implemented it within iOS for the upcoming iOS 5.
First browser-based app store coming to iOS
In the near future, those with jailbroken iDevices will no longer have to solely rely on Cydia to purchase, download and install all of their favorite unofficial third-party applications. Lima, a new browser-based unofficial app store by the Infini Dev Team, is in development to bring the currently app-based third-party application market to the mobile browser for the first time.

Developers have been trying out the beta release of iPhone OS 4.0 for a few days now, and many hidden features and changes are being discovered. One such find is the apparent removal of the “rate on delete” prompts that a user sees upon deleting an application from their device. Since then, it has come a long way in terms of development and what it is capable of. However, the latest point release of the application may bring some of the most exciting features to the application. The two updates listed by the developer were push notifications and contact sync.
App Store downloads top 3 billion, will they slow anytime soon?
Just over three months ago, Apple announced their App Store had reached two billion downloads of various applications created by third party developers. This month, Apple stated the App Store has now topped a staggering three billion downloads. This not only means that a billion applications were downloaded in a span of three months, but also that over three billion apps have been downloaded in just over 18 months since the store’s inception
Planet of the Apps: A Handheld Revolution – coming soon to CNBC
CNBC is going to air “Planet of the Apps: A Handheld Revolution”—a one-hour documentary that aims to portray how the iPhone have changed lives, while showing insights into the many developers behind the apps. While the majority of the documentary will focus on the Apple iPhone App Store, CNBC’s Scott Wapner will also take a look at Apple’s biggest competitors, namely a Verizon and Google Android deal.
$50 Wolfram Alpha app appears on App Store, appears to be worth it
Wolfram Alpa, a “long-term project to make all systematic knowledge immediately computable by anyone,” recently had their iPhone app accepted by Apple into the App Store. The application—which costs a nicely sized $50—is the first native Wolfram Alpha application available through download in the App Store, although the company has had an iPhone dedicated website for a while. It uses the new API the team has recently opened to allow developers to use the knowledge engine in their own applications and software.
Rock Band coming to iPhone soon
For all of you out there who love to jam with friends using Rock Band, you will soon be able to do it on your iPhone. As confirmed by EA Games and a video of the gameplay (past the jump) and in a Touch Arcade preview, a version of Rock Band is currently awaiting approval in the long line of iPhone applications, and should hopefully be available next week. It will come with 20 songs on the initial purchase, and there will eventually be $0.99 two song update packs available.
