iPhone Appidemic: Goldilocks
As far as the cautionary children’s tales go, Goldilocks is one of my least favorite. I never really got the point of it. Don’t trespass? Don’t eat someone else’s food? I think maybe that’s it, because one time a college roommate ate my leftover pizza that I’d been looking forward to all afternoon, and I never really forgave him. You hear that, Hoyt? You owe me a pizza. Anyway, here’s Goldilocks, narrated by Meg Ryan, who was great in Joe vs. the Volcano.
iPhone Appidemic: The Velveteen Rabbit
Last month, I wrote about John Henry, my first look at the Rabbit Ears apps for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad being brought to you by Ruckus Media Group. This time, it’s Margery Williams’ classic The Velveteen Rabbit, read by Meryl Streep, with music by George Winston. That it’s such a great story certainly doesn’t hurt, but Ruckus also knows how to repurpose the Rabbit Ears productions for Apple’s iDevices.
Kindle or iPhone? Amazon turns your iPhone into a Kindle
Earlier this week, I wrote about what roles the iPhone and Amazon Kindle play in allowing us to access our favorite content. Well, now it seems as if Amazon has decided to turn your iPhone into an actual Kindle 2. If their new Kindle iPhone application is any hint at what they have in mind, then it’s going to be good. Although this application doesn’t allow you to buy content straight from it (yet), you are able to use Safari to actually purchase the content. However, don’t let that sway you, this app is pretty awesome.
Appletell reviews Choose Your Own Adventure – Return to Atlantis for iPhone, iPod touch
Yes, I used to read Choose Your Own Adventure books. Of course I did. I was in grade school when the series launched, so I was there at the right time. And although I used to own quite a few of them, I have no idea where they ended up. The attic at my parents’ house? A garage sale? Donated to a fund raiser? I’d like to have them back, because I think they’d be fun to read to my own kids now. Assuming that’ll never happen, I guess my iPhone will suffice.
Magnetism Studios has released the Return to Atlantis Choose Your Own Adventure book for the iPhone, and they’ve done so faithfully. The original cover remains. The illustrations remain. Even the “This book is different from other books” warning remains. Fans of the series will be thrilled, but what about everyone else? If you’ve never chosen your adventure, is this book worthy of your App Store dollars? Well, in the spirt of things, I’ll let you choose.
