WWDC: iPhone 3.0 update, release date

At this years WWDC, Apple spilled some more information about the highly anticipated iPhone OS 3.0 announcement. We already knew plenty of information about this new software, but as usual, Apple had a couple of surprising announcements. Among them was the announcement that the iPhone 3.0 software will be available June 17th, about a week from today!

New images showcase potential iPhone 3G 2009 candidate

New photos hosted on a Chinese blog appear to show user interface images of the new iPhone that may be announced at WWDC. Although nobody can even say for sure that a new iPhone is coming, it is pretty well accepted that there will be one. The images, although blurry, appear to be legitimate, if you ask me. They showcase some of the features everyone was expecting to be in a new version of the hardware.

PC World: iPhone vs. BB Storm

PC World has put the iPhone and the new Blackberry Storm in a cage match to determine which is the best mobile phone/mobile web platform. The winner? Well, like Godzilla vs. King Kong, it depends on which version you see*.

Because, in the end, PC World wusses out and prints two different articles, both of which list eight reasons why either the Storm or the iPhone trounces the other. In all honesty, though, the pro-Storm article is kinda lame because it was written just as the Storm was coming out, and they’re basing their assumptions on what the Storm will probably be like based on other Blackberry devices.

What to expect in upcoming iPhone firmware 2.2

As soon as one firmware update is released by Apple, the first thing to do is start waiting for the next one. iPhone 2.1 is great, but no matter what, we’ll always want more. In fact, I can think of one specific feature that’s driving a lot of people crazy…Copy and Paste! Sadly, it’s not on the list, but did you really think it would be? It’s such a simple feature, but you know it’s going to be huge when it finally makes it’s way on to the iPhone. While we’re waiting for that, at least we’ll be treated to some new features in the not too distant future.

iPhone tethering in the works?

An adequately unsourced claim paired with a strong desire for iPhone tethering has created this news item:

A Gizmodo reader says that after firing off an e-mail to sjobs at Apple (which works well, for the record) he got one of those rare Steve responses… sent from an iPhone no less.

Check out the dialogue after the break.

Is copy and paste really necessary on the iPhone?

It seems every other pundit has lamented the lack of copy and paste functionality on the iPhone, but a month after its release, the iPhone, sans copy/paste, is selling by the millions. Given that the iPhone is designed for less strenuous tasks than the average desktop computer, it begs the question: does the iPhone even need to copy and paste?

The answer to that question may be no. Find out why after the break.

PriceGrabber study: 42% are interested in buying an iPhone

Here’s another one of “them surveys” on consumers’ perception of the iPhone. PriceGrabber surveyed around 3,066 consumers online, asking if they are interested in buying an iPhone . The results showed that 42% of those surveyed are keen. The suvey, which was conducted between May 20th and June 5th, also revealed that of the 54% more »

We’re certain about 3G, now lets speculate features!

Okay, its official. 3G iPhone rumors have become a little too much. Asking “Will a 3G iPhone be released at WWDC?” is up there with the likes of “Does a bear use the restroom in the woods?” and “Is the Pope Catholic?” In other words, yes. It will be there. I am willing to bet my first-born son on that (though you may be waiting a good 10 to 15 years for a payout should I be mistaken, but, as you may see above, I’m pretty darn sure I’m not).

Now that I have stated how certain I am of 3G at WWDC, let’s start a new discussion. Other than the look and feel of the new iPhone, what will be changed in iPhone OS 2.0? Read on to hear my take on the subject.
