Move exclusively to the cloud? Not me, not now, not ever

I don’t hate the Cloud. I don’t love the Cloud. To some degree I’ve been lured into the Cloud by webmail (in my case, Gmail, GMX, Yahoo! and Hotmail, in that order of use), and of course search engines, but I strongly resist the concept of the Cloud ever becoming the default medium for my digital activities. A rumor began making the rounds last week that Apple may be developing an iPhone “nano” that would be essentially a Cloud-based device.

iPhone nano and touch rumored, plausible

iPhone plans are quite pricy…in the U.S., that is. AT&T is making the users pay a premium to use the iPhone, that’s for sure. However, analysts see a huge revenue increase by Apple selling a data plan-less phone. How exactly would Apple pull this off? Analysts predict two new products: an iPhone nano and an iPhone touch.

Another iPhone nano rumor

AppleInsider says that Economic Daily News has a source inside Apple’s Taiwanese supply chain claiming that the iPhone nano will become a reality. This source claims that bidding by some of the suppliers of components for the fabled device is already ending. This rumor makes itself a little more realistic than the rest by putting an ETA for the iPhone nano no earlier than June 2009.

iPhone nano rumors revived in time for Macworld

iPhone nano rumors are nothing new. It’s actually hard to tell if the iPhone nano is one of those rumors created by fanboys who want a product badly or if there’s actually a product being developed. iDealsChina is claiming they have information pointing to the latter just in time for Macworld. iPhone 3G has a bad 3G chipset?

GigaOm is reporting on some recent issues with the iPhone 3G. Om, and others, have been complaining about what they call poor 3G reception with the new iPhone. Om quotes Richard Windsor, an analyst with Nomura Securities, who has a possible explanation.

We believe that these issues are typical of an immature chipset and radio protocol stack where we are almost certain Infineon is the 3G supplier.

iPhone nano!? Rumors point to “yes”

If Daily Mail is to be trusted, then there is a possibility of a new iPhone nano dropping before the end of the year.

The article breathes new fire into the rumor rather briefly.

Apple is about to launch a nano version of the hugely successful iPhone. It is expected to be in the shops in time for Christmas.

Kevin Chang apparently fired for false reports

This is currently unconfirmed, but DealBreaker is claiming that Kevin Chang, a JP Morgan analyst who made false claims over the “iPhone Nano” has been fired. Chang used a single patent filing and several unconfirmed sources to arrive at his “iPhone Nano” conclusions. Chang believed that Apple would sell between 30-40 million of these units more »

iPhone nano predictions inaccurate

Recent reports that Apple could be releasing a cheaper/simpler version of the iPhone have been played down by financial institution JP Morgan. A report made by Kevin Chang earlier claimed that this iPhone was supposed to ship in late 2007. Unfortunately, this was based on unconfirmed sources and a single patent filing. “We believe a more »
