New Apple ads tout copy and paste and voice control features
Apple has posted two new iPhone advertisements on their website. This time around, they are touting Voice Control and Cut, Copy, and Paste—two new features on the iPhone that have existed on other phones for plenty of years now. That said, Apple’s implementation of them is once again above that of their competitors. Check out the ads in the videos past the jump.
iPhone video used in newscast
When Apple launched the new iPhone 3GS with video and the OS 3.0 software with the Voice Memos app, they probably never realized how these apps would go hand in hand. WFOR’s 5PM News did, though. A recent news story by their reporter, Gio Benitez, was shot completely with an iPhone camera. Although it can be edited right on the phone (which is limited to simply cutting it shorter), the broadcasting company did use Final Cut Pro to edit the video. That said, all of the narration for the newscast was recorded using Apple’s Voice Memo application.
Appletellcast weekly Apple podcast, June 23rd, 2009
Yes, the Appletellcast has hardly been weekly lately. We know this. But as we continue to refine the format and content, we decided to have a talk this week about the big news in the world of Apple. Specifically: the iPhone 3G S, iPhone OS 3.0, and the Wall Street Journal report that Steve Jobs had a liver transplant. Of course, we also found room to talk about women in tight t-shirts and tuxedoed 80s pop stars.
More than one million iPhone 3G Ss sold, Steve Jobs gives a quote
In just three days, from Friday to Sunday, Apple is reporting that over one million iPhone 3G Ss have been sold. Not only is that outstanding for a hardware update that offers only two real benefits (camera and improved processor/RAM), it is outstanding in that it sold many more than the Palm Pre on its opening weekend. The iPhone hardware update beat out the first run of the Palm Pre. Sure, the iPhone has had more time in the market, but the Pre was supposed to be highly anticipated. It doesn’t seem as if that it true anymore.
AT&T WiFi hotspot auto-authentication courtesy of OS 3.0
Turns out there’s another feature you might not be fully familiar with in iPhone OS 3.0. It’s called auto-authentication, and if you live in the US, you may even care. AT&T has over 20,000 WiFi hotspots scattered across the globe (think McDonalds) and now your iPhone can access them, for free, with ease.
iPhone OS 3.0: Nice-to-Knows
The long-awaited iPhone OS 3.0 is finally here. While it is certainly less momentous than the launch of the original iPhone, it is still a solid OS upgrade in terms of performance and additional features. Assuming you’ve upgraded succesfully, you will soon notice a few minor enhancements that, while not bullet-pointed in a Keynote, certainly raise the bar in terms of usability. Here are a few that have been discovered in just a couple hours of testing.
iPhone 3.0 First Look: Find My iPhone
When Apple previewed the iPhone 3.0 update at WWDC last week, one of the previously unannounced features was the new “Find My iPhone” service for Mobile Me users. Being a Mobile Me subscriber, I thought I would try it out and let you know how it worked. After spending some time trying out this feature, I am impressed by the simplicity and elegance of it. As a Mobile Me user, I am glad Apple has continued to increase the spectrum of my Mobile Me subscription, making it even more valuable.
iPhone 3.0 First Look: iTunes & App Store
Once you’ve updated to 3.0, you’ll likely spend some time looking around for the obvious new features. You’ll cut and paste some text, write a note in landscape, download an app with push notifications…you get the idea. But did you remember that with iPhone OS 3.0, you can now download movies, T.V shows, and content from the iTunes U store? I doubt downloading feature-length movies through a 3G connection would be likely, but a fast WiFi signal at an airport before a long flight would serve this ability well.
Gaming accessories coming to iPod touch and iPhone with OS 3.0
Today is the day when Apple will release the iPhone OS 3.0 upgrade, and on their iPod touch upgrade page they mention gaming accessories as being a new feature/option of the upgrade. Will the iPod touch (and by extension iPhone) finally be getting enough buttons for serious gaming?
iPhone 3GS pricing – get over it already!
Okay, okay, we get it. The world—at least those that like the iPhone—is in turmoil. AT&T is saying that current iPhone 3G users won’t get any special discounts to upgrade their current phones to the new iPhone 3GS. Let the chaos and destruction begin, right? Well, not exactly. The furor on Twitter is, quite frankly, obscene. AT&T and Apple are perfectly right to charge an early upgrade fee, and here’s why it makes sense…
