iphone os updates
iPhone OS 3.1.2 available now
The latest firmware update for the iPhone and iPod touch has today been released from Apple. There are no new features here, just a few bug fixes to keep your iPhone or iPod touch on top form. The update should fix small issues regarding cellular service, video playback and a reported problem where the iPhone does not wake from sleep mode.
iPhone OS 3.1 available today [update]
Steve Jobs has just announced the latest software upgrade available today for the iPhone and iPod touch—iPhone OS 3.1—featuring new options for Genius in the App Store, and also over 30,000 ringtones available for download for just $1.29.
iPhone MMS arrives on September 25th
Yesterday, we wrote that an AT&T employee had leaked that iPhone OS 3.1 would be released in September. Today, AT&T released a press release stating that the Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) will be coming to the iPhone on AT&T on September 25th. The service will become active through a software update for the iPhone, which will most likely be iPhone OS 3.1.
iPhone 3.0 First Look: iTunes & App Store
Once you’ve updated to 3.0, you’ll likely spend some time looking around for the obvious new features. You’ll cut and paste some text, write a note in landscape, download an app with push notifications…you get the idea. But did you remember that with iPhone OS 3.0, you can now download movies, T.V shows, and content from the iTunes U store? I doubt downloading feature-length movies through a 3G connection would be likely, but a fast WiFi signal at an airport before a long flight would serve this ability well.
Where’s Steve Jobs? WWDC details announced
The latest press release from Apple has outlined a few details about what we’ll be seeing at this years World Wide Developers Conference. The event will begin with the usual keynote from Apple, with Phil Schiller giving a preview of Mac OS X Snow Leopard. We’ll also see the public release of iPhone OS 3.0, but there are two more things that we’d like to see: a new iPhone and Steve Jobs.
Apple’s WWDC event has a date set
Each year, Apple holds an event for developers of Mac OS X and the iPhone OS. This event—The World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC)—is held in the summer months, and Apple have set the dates for this year’s conference as 8th – 12th June 2009. A lot of the event means nothing to a lot of people, unless you’re a part-time coder or have an interest in developing applications for Apple systems. But there’s also a presentation that the rest of the world looks in for.
iPhone 3.0 cut, copy and paste
Not a minute too soon, cut, copy and paste is now here on the iPhone and iPod touch. It would seem Kevin Rose knew exactly what he was talking about—he got things pretty accurate compared with the demonstration given by Scott Forstall, Apple’s Senior Vice President for iPhone Software. So how’s it work? Well, quite simply…
iPhone Push Notifications
Apple has finally brought push notifications to the table for the iPhone and iPod touch. Fair enough, they’re a few months later than they originally said, but it’s here now, so lets take a look.
iPhone OS 3.0 on the way
On 17th March, Apple will show the world the first look at iPhone 3.0. They say a preview is coming, along with a new SDK. It’s expected the SDK will be available quite soon after the 17th, if not on the date itself, to allow developers to prepare and to begin creating new applications, while also updating previous apps. There’s no date for a public release of iPhone 3.0 as of yet, but if Apple are confident enough to show it off next Tuesday, then I’d think it’s quite close to being finished. A few months at the most, I’d expect.
