Memorial Day weekend Mac and iDevice specials [updated]

It’s Memorial Day weekend here in the United States. Along with the long weekend, parades, fly-overs and barbecues, it also brings sales, for one reason or another. Mac and iPhone, iPad, iPod touch developers have many of their own to offer, so we’ll round them all up here as they come in. Just remember to get your head out of your iPhone when the flag goes by at the parade, okay?

Apple revenue grows by 71% in Q1 2011

With or without Steve Jobs, who is currently on medical leave, there seems to be no stopping Apple. The company reporting a very good first quarter in terms of revenue and earnings. And so, prior to the official live conference call on its Q1 2011 earnings report, Apple issued an official earnings statement. For the first quarter of its fiscal 2011, which ended last December 25, 2010, Apple posted a record revenue of $26.74 billion and record net quarterly profit of $6 billion. This puts the value of of Apple’s stocks per diluted share to $6.54.

Android the No.1 OS, iPhone the No.1 smartphone in the U.S.

Research firm Canalys has released some interesting mobile phone figures. Two things that made the report interesting: the Android OS is now the number one mobile phone OS, while the iPhone is now the most popular smartphone in Q3 2010. Apple was able to get 17% market share worldwide despite currently selling only two phones. What’s important here is that Apple has overtaken RIM, which managed to get only 15% of the market share.

Apple is now the no. 4 mobile phone vendor, according to IDC

As if officially confirming Steve Jobs’ claim that Apple has overtaken RIM, IDC has just published their Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker. True enough, amidst the growing mobile phone market, IDC’s figures show that Apple is now the no. 4 mobile phone vendor, with RIM following it closely at no. 5. Nokia continues to be at no. 1, followed by Samsung and LG. Apple’s 3Q shipment of iPhones is at 14.1 million, from 7.4 million in the same quarter in 2009. RIM, on the other hand, managed to sell 12.4 million units from last year’s 8.5 million.

As we reported yesterday, Steve jobs and his Apple crew are probably riding high on the company’s financial results for its fiscal 2010 fourth quarter ended September 25, 2010. It was another good quarter, with Apple posting a record revenue of $20.34 billion and net quarterly profit of $4.31 billion, or $4.64 per diluted share. Comparing this with the results of the same quarter last year will make you feel like Apple is getting all the money in this world. Last year’s quarterly profit was only at $2.53 billion or $2.77 per diluted share.

iPhone 4 launch day: What should we expect?

iPhone 4 launch day is right around the corner, and that’s probably where the lines will be as well. This version of the iPhone is by far the largest leap in terms of hardware changes since the original iPhone, and that has people excited. With iOS 4 having been released this week as well, it’s kind of hard not to be. The question remains, though, as to what is going to happen this Thursday when the doors at Apple and AT&T stores worldwide open.

Apple reports most profitable quarter ever

It seems that even in this economy, there’s no slowing Apple down. The company announced its quarterly earnings Monday, revealing that its net income rose 47 percent. The earnings, which were driven by record Mac computer and iPhone sales, sent Apple shares surging 7 percent in extended trading to an all-time high.
