Had bad 3G reception before? Firmware 2.0.2 gets rid of it completely…
For many users, firmware update 2.0.2 was supposed to be the fix for 3G reception issues. I say supposed to be, because apparently, instead of fixing the iPhone’s hefty signal strength requirements for 3G, it makes that already bad reception worse for some users.
According to iPhoneAtlas, some 3G users are unable to get wireless access of any sort without disabling the option for 3G. Here’s what an Apple Discussions poster had to say:
I use to get 1-3 bars of 3g service in my house and now I cant make a call… I have to switch off the 3G to get any bars Things are going the wrong way!
More after the break.
iPhone phone home? Can Apple kill your apps? [Update - Don't worry]
iPhoneAtlas reports that there is another new feature of Firmware 2.x that isn’t so hot. Apparently, the iPhone (and presumably the iPod Touch) has a process by which it can check for and disable unauthorized programs. The article goes on to say that the firmware has a URL with a list of unauthorized applications. Currently, that list is empty.
