art4artdesign’s paintbox Xmas is a free painting program and drawing app with a focus on Christmas to encourage children to use their own fantasy and creativity. Depending on the painting pattern, each Xmas-story can be individually painted or expressed. Christmas Eve is intended to spark the spirit of Christmas and capture the magic of Santa Claus and his elves. The universal version of Christmas Eve is available for free through the end of 2011.

Here comes the sun…or maybe not. Better check. Weather Time Machine lets you create a list of your favorite cities across the U.S. and Canada. As the “Time Machine” part of the app title indicates, you can also select what two week period you would like to put on your list. If you want to look at past data, you can pick a date from five years ago to present, displayed in two week increments.

The third annual best app ever awards were announced during this years Macworld Expo. The awards process began in November when app users from all over the world could nominate their favorite apps. Out of the over 90,000 submissions they narrowed it down to the top 609 that were divided up into over 30 categories. Every category had an iPhone division and an iPad division except for the overall best app ever. They then allow users to votes during the first 25 days of January and received nearly half a million votes.

Until the iPhone and iPod Touch SDK is out, we can only rely on web apps. Apple has a Web App directory of 1006, but I’ve narrowed it down to 5 handy applications. No matter what kind of iPhone/iPod Touch user you are, you can make use of at least one of these web apps.
