Quick look at the new iPod nano and iPod touch

There were many rumors about the iPod’s demise leading up to Apple’s Let’s Talk iPhone media event, but Apple once again surprised everyone by making improvements on the iPod nano and the iPod touch. The iPod Shuffle wasn’t discontinued as some expected, but it is odd that the iPod Classic wasn’t mentioned one way or the other.

Apple removes click wheel iPod games from the iTunes Store

Adding weight to the rumors that Apple is planning to discontinue the iPod Classic and Shuffle models, the company has removed click wheel iPod games from the iTunes Store. Click wheel iPods haven’t seen a new game since February of 2009 when Apple stopped supporting development to focus strictly on iOS. The click wheel games, however, remained in the iTunes Store until recently when they were pulled (there is no word on when exactly that happened, though).

Apple Store lets you share products on Facebook and Twitter

Apple’s Store was offline for a few hours earlier this week and, as always, people investigated for any changes or additions. They discovered that now you can share the configuration for the Mac Pro and iPod classic on Facebook and Twitter. You use the pop-up menu on the select button that you use to configure that model.

How to reset your iPod

Sometimes, you just need to reset an iPod. A lot of problems and inconsistent behavior can be handled with a reset instead of a full restore, which would actually wipe out your iPod data and give you a clean slate. It’s effective, but drastic, so you’ll always want to try a reset first (this is especially handy when your iPod is frozen; unable to turn on or off). Doing so is as simple as this…

What’s the future of the click wheel iPod?

As we heard on Monday, there’s a possibility that the iPod might see a refresh later this month. At this point, we can only speculate at what such an event could bring, but what could happen with the iPod Classic and iPod Nano? Is this the end of the line for the click wheel, to be replaced by an all-touchscreen lineup, or is there a little more life left in them? Let’s take a look at the options, and why I think both the iPod Nano and iPod Classic aren’t going anywhere.

BMW to support iOS 4′s iPod Out feature

One iOS 4 feature that seems to slip under the radar most of the time—aptly named iPod Out—allows all devices that can run iOS 4 to display an iPod interface on the external display of the device to which it is connected. This has not been a commonly used feature because, let’s face it, what do you connect your iPod or iPhone to that has an external display? BMW says you will do so with their cars.

Apple updates the iPod classic

The iPod classic managed to get a mention on stage at today’s Apple event, while nothing really happened to the device itself. The only news to report are the memory boosts and price reductions. The current 120GB model is being upgrade to 160GB for the same previous price: $249. Nothing major here, but another nice update all the same.

Apple iPod press event, September 9th – live blog

It may only be rock and roll, but we like it, too. I think we’ll also like what we see out of Apple’s press event from San Francisco today, provided you don’t have unrealistic expectations. The announcements begin at 10:00 a.m. PDT (1:00 p.m. EDT). We’ll be running our live blog of the event as the announcements happen, and will update this page with more speculation and last minute rumors as they surface, so bookmark this page or just stick around until then.

Apple’s September 9th event: rumor round-up

As many of you will be aware, Apple is hosting a music themed event in San Francisco on September 9th. The tagline on the invitations reads “It’s only rock and roll, but we like it,” which certainly suggests music will play an important role in the keynote. While there are certainly rumors surrounding an update to the iPod line, there are also many other rumors that have been circulating the Internet, so here’s a round-up of all the possibilities we could see from Apple tomorrow.

Apple’s music-themed event confirmed for September 9th

Just as August draws to a close, Apple has made official their much rumored September 9th music themed event. As they have done in past years, Apple has released the image above announcing the event in the style of their ubiquitous iPod and iTunes advertisements. “It’s only rock and roll, but we like it” reads the image, quoting the Rolling Stones’ song.
