ipod refresh
What’s the future of the click wheel iPod?
As we heard on Monday, there’s a possibility that the iPod might see a refresh later this month. At this point, we can only speculate at what such an event could bring, but what could happen with the iPod Classic and iPod Nano? Is this the end of the line for the click wheel, to be replaced by an all-touchscreen lineup, or is there a little more life left in them? Let’s take a look at the options, and why I think both the iPod Nano and iPod Classic aren’t going anywhere.
Rumor: iPod media event scheduled for mid-August?
A “reliable source within Apple” has informed MacMagazine of an iPod press event that is to take place in mid-August. This event would detail the iOS 4 updates for iPad, a potential refresh of the iPod Touch hardware, and perhaps even some information about Apple’s remaining clickwheel iPod lines that have fallen by the wayside in this touch interface era. While the source didn’t give an exact date, we can assume it will most likely be around August 16th or 17th.
Apple iPod press event, September 9th – live blog
It may only be rock and roll, but we like it, too. I think we’ll also like what we see out of Apple’s press event from San Francisco today, provided you don’t have unrealistic expectations. The announcements begin at 10:00 a.m. PDT (1:00 p.m. EDT). We’ll be running our live blog of the event as the announcements happen, and will update this page with more speculation and last minute rumors as they surface, so bookmark this page or just stick around until then.
Current iPod SKUs are discontinued, new iPods around the corner
Apple Authorized Resellers are reporting to Ars Technica that the current stock of iPods are not being replenished, and that there will indeed be a new line of iPods introduced in the very near future. With Apple’s iPod event all but set to be September 9th, this comes as no surprise, as Apple has updated their iPod line in September the past several years. The question is what, not when.
Current iPod line being phased out for September announcement
Target, Argos in the UK, and many more iPod supply stores are saying that the current iPod line is marked “discontinued” in preparation for new models with a potential September Apple event.
According to Apple Insider, Argos recieved displays promoting price cuts, including a huge wall poster. It is a bit unclear whether this means cuts on existing inventory, or cheaper, newer iPod lines.
Will your favorite iPod line be updated? Possibilities after the break.
