Monster Clarity HD Model One iDevice compatible speaker monitor review

Monster Clarity HD Model One

Monster’s Clarity HD Model One had me thinking back to party night at church camp, and the sound system that was required to fill an outdoor pavilion. Those speakers were towers, and there were stacks of LPs or CDs in milk crates surrounding them. The relatively tiny Clarity HD Model One may have been able to out-power those rigs, and all from a tiny little iPod.

The JBL company recently launched a successor to the JBL OnBeat speaker dock. It’s called the JBL OnBeat Air, and this new speaker dock brings a few extra features beyond the previous generation speaker dock. The OnBeat Air, while acting as a charging station for your iOS devices (through its 30-pin connector), also works well with Apple’s AirPlay technology so you can stream music across the room with ease.

TEAC SR-100i CD/FM radio iPod/iPhone speaker dock review

It’s too easy, I think, to begin this review by commenting on the shape of TEAC’s SR-100i. You may look at it and see a football. Or maybe a knockoff of the B&W Zeppelin. I see the “head” of the spaceships from War of the Worlds, but I’m like that. What matters, instead, is sound, and the SR-100i certainly delivers that…even if it doesn’t deliver death rays.

Appletell’s Cool iPig speaker dock giveaway

Julius Dance Machine Docking Station review

When you first take a gander at these speakers, only one word comes to mind: monkey. The monkey is, after all, Paul Frank’s signature image, but you have to wonder how good a monkey speaker could really be. As it turns out, monkeys can actually make a pretty good audio system. This is a fun and funky way to get great sound.

Appletell reviews the i-DS3 Plus from Boston Acoustics

Too often, the divergent goals of portable music and high quality audio lead to sound systems that skimp on the sound quality while simultaneously falling oddly short on portability. Speakers that require AC power but provide only mediocre sound trump both the iPod’s goal of portable music and an uncompromising listening experience that audiophiles demand. Luckily, the i-DS3 Plus falls short in neither of those categories, and brings with it innovative features and a streamlined interface that make its use a truly enjoyable listening experience.
