ipod update
Rumor: iPod media event scheduled for mid-August?
A “reliable source within Apple” has informed MacMagazine of an iPod press event that is to take place in mid-August. This event would detail the iOS 4 updates for iPad, a potential refresh of the iPod Touch hardware, and perhaps even some information about Apple’s remaining clickwheel iPod lines that have fallen by the wayside in this touch interface era. While the source didn’t give an exact date, we can assume it will most likely be around August 16th or 17th.
Current iPod SKUs are discontinued, new iPods around the corner
Apple Authorized Resellers are reporting to Ars Technica that the current stock of iPods are not being replenished, and that there will indeed be a new line of iPods introduced in the very near future. With Apple’s iPod event all but set to be September 9th, this comes as no surprise, as Apple has updated their iPod line in September the past several years. The question is what, not when.
Apple in a “clean-up” phase, preparing for new generation of computing?
I recently wrote an article on Apple’s seeming lack of real innovation in the Mac market. After some consideration, I realized that all of their product lines have been rather stagnant lately: iPhone 3G was a small departure from iPhone design-wise, Macs took on a gray and black finish, and Snow Leopard is supposedly not introducing many new features. This leads me to believe Apple is preparing a new generation of computing.
Macintosh/iPhone software update round-up – November 20, 2008
Macintosh and iPhone software updates and announcements for November 20, 2008:
- Silly My Apple Space users, hurling your bodies out into The New Blog. If you had any inkling of the true nature of the blogosphere, any at all, you would’ve hidden from it in terror.
- I wonder if the fellows at publicspace.net have considered making Gene Gene the Dancing Machine the spokesman for The Big Mean Folder Machine.
- Speck announces SeeThru Satin for the MacBook. I think that may be naughty.
- The Big Concept and Alphabet Art, my two favorite PBS shows, are now also Logo Design Studio Pro expansion packs.

- Use StoryMill to write your story, so long as it’s not The Mill On the Floss, because that’s already been written.
- Headphone companies need to quit giving their headphones helicopter names. I mean, HFI-15G is really the best you can do?

- Those My Apple Space guys are still pushing for their piece of the social networking pie, this time offering iPhone support ala mode.
- I was all set to buy the latest Mac Bundle Box until I found out YummySoup was a program and not, you know, yummy soup.
- Tonight on WebSite Tonight: support for RSS feeds, blog support, and the comic stylings of funny man Louie Anderson.
- My Seahawks aren’t yet showing up in Zumobi’s Pro Football for the iPhone/iPod touch. That’s okay, though…they’re not showing up on Sundays, either.
- Buy Byline. Bye bye, RSS. Hello…something that rhymes with RSS. I just blew this joke.
- Aww, man! KavaTunes and iTunes came to the party wearing the exact same costume!
- Spend a lot of money to upgrade Dreamweaver and you can spend less money to upgrade Freeway 5 Pro.
- Next time you’re asked for your passport while crossing into Canada, you can say, “Why, do you need to charge your iPod/iPhone while connected to an aftermarket automotive integrated audio system?” You’ll laugh all the way to Guantanamo Bay.
- Apparently, something called SoftCare is now called vjoon. That’s not the point of the press release, but I can’t get past the idea that someone though “vjoon” was a better name for anything.

- Car Spotter for iPhone is on sale for $4.99. Now, if I could only find my iPhone Spotter…
- Funtastic Photos is an “evolutionary photo editor” for the Mac, so don’t use it at school or you’ll anger the “intelligent design photo editor” people .

- Final Cut Pro is a media app, so why do you need Loader to streamline the media importing process? Wouldn’t that be like needing a special app in order to bring photos into Photoshop? Any, Loader’s available.
- Mail Act-On 2 puts Apple Mail organization at your fingertips. I’m thinking that was a good place to put it.
- WiFi Radar will help you maximize use of your wireless network. Or, better yet, help you bogart your neighbor’s.

More on the rainbow assortment of new iPod nanos
Apple today announced the (much rumored) revamp of the iPod nano line.
Available in 8GB ($149) and 16GB ($199) versions, the new nano comes in nine different colors and features a redesigned screen which takes up most of the product’s face. Battery life is estimated by Apple to be 24 hours of music play, 4 hours of video play.
Details (and additional colors) after the break.
New iPod Nano announced
Kevin Rose’s spy shots turned out to be correct! The 4th generation iPod Nano is exactly like the spy shots we’ve seen in the last week or two — it has an aluminum oval design, with a longer screen. Jobs claims it’s the “Thinnest iPod we’ve ever made”, and “You’ll be blown away by how thin it is”. As for new features, the 4th-gen Nano will have an enhanced UI, accelerometer from the iPhone and iPod Touch for CoverFlow — and, support for the new iTunes 8 Genius function.
Details after the break.
Found – Hama iPod nano 4G cases
On the floor of the IFA, Engadget Spanish discovered a certain iPod case that seems to prove those Kevin Rose rumors. Looks like the Dark Tipper wasn’t lying after all. On a massive wall with thousands upon thousands of iPod accessories, a single case from Hama, a British company, was pecked out. The case says “For iPod nano 4G” (pictured above), and if a real item is a fake, then somebody really put a lot of money into pulling a prank on the iPod-loving community. It carries the rounded shape that was predicted by Mr. Digg, and seems to fit the dimensions shown in other iPod nano document that have been released.
From the information we received from Kevin Rose, and now this, a new iPod nano is all but confirmed. However, especially with Apple, the minor details are always still in the air, so check back here for more as it happens, especially on (the rumored d-day) September 9th.
Check out another pic after the jump.
