Restoring spring to the iPhone Springboard
As with many iPhone and iPod touch owners, my screen has become a mess of app icons. I’m five screens deep now (and that’s nothing compared to some), with little rhyme or reason on what goes where. Apple introduced iPhone app management in iTunes 9, but this feels more like an afterthought than a feature. To help users take control of this mess, Bruce Tognozzi at AskTog has a few suggestions for Apple to improve the Springboard.
Inside the iTunes LP
After killing the album with the a la carte design of iTunes, Apple has decided to resuscitate it with the iTunes LP: users pay for an entire album, and get a boatload of extras: liner notes, videos, visualizers, and whatever extras the labels (and artists themselves) decide to include. But how does an iTunes LP work? Web developer Jay Robinson decided to find out.
How-to video: iDevice app management in iTunes 9
One of the many useful features introduced in iTunes 9 is app management. Finally, you can rearrange and organize your apps and home screens on your iPhone or iPod touch with the ease of the mouse. I thought the best way to show off the new app management features of iTunes 9 was to just show you. So, here’s a video showing off the new feature.
Does iTunes 9 Facebook and Twitter integration mean anything significant?
iTunes 9 offers a variety of user interface improvements, as well as a couple new features. Included in those features is Twitter and Facebook integration. By this, I mean that iTunes users can now right click on the arrow to the right of a song or album and click either “Share on Twitter” or “Share on Facebook” to tell all of their friends about it. But what does this mean?
Apple by numbers according to Steve Jobs
Along with the obviously exciting product updates and announcements at Apple’s September event was the familiar face we all know and love, Steve Jobs. After sincerely thanking the donor of his liver and Apple community for helping him make it through his tough time in dealing with health, he went on to offer some fairly interesting numbers about Apple and their products. Ranging from the iPhone to iTunes, they help to give an insight into where Apple will be focusing.
iTunes 9 + Snow Leopard = The Digital Lifestyle Hub, renewed
Many years ago, back when lamp-style iMacs were cool and iPods came in only one color, Apple promoted a vision of the Mac as the hub of the then-emerging “digital lifestyle.” With so much of the spotlight on iPhone OS products, there has not been a clear central pillar of this digital hub strategy. The recent release of Snow Leopard for Mac users, coupled with the just-announced iTunes 9, has refocused the digital hub strategy squarely on the Mac, and brought a wide audience some extremely cool features.
Apple releases iTunes 9 [Update: now available.]
Apple has just released the latest version of iTunes at the September 9th event in San Francisco. iTunes 9 has some new welcome features, including the ability to organize your iPhone and iPod touch applications within iTunes to sync across to your device.
Apple’s September 9th event: rumor round-up
As many of you will be aware, Apple is hosting a music themed event in San Francisco on September 9th. The tagline on the invitations reads “It’s only rock and roll, but we like it,” which certainly suggests music will play an important role in the keynote. While there are certainly rumors surrounding an update to the iPod line, there are also many other rumors that have been circulating the Internet, so here’s a round-up of all the possibilities we could see from Apple tomorrow.
Possible iTunes 9 screenshots
The BoyGeniousReport has some screenshot to go along with recent rumors surrounding iTunes 9. If you don’t recall, the update is supposed to add support for sharable playlists via Facebook integration, 3rd party devices (seriously?) and Blu-Ray playback.
iTunes 9.0 potential feature list rumor [updated with images]
According to reliable sources over at The Boy Genius Report, the ninth version of iTunes will have some nice new features. The first of these rumored features says that iTunes will be receiving Blu-ray support finally, despite some of Apple’s (or should I say Steve’s) comments in the past. This isn’t the first time Apple Blu-ray has been rumored, but it seems a little more plausible now that HD DVD has had some time to fade away.
