iTunes Match allows users to stream and download their music

Until now, it hasn’t been clear whether iTunes Match users are able to stream or download their stored music for local play on a computer or iDevice. Downloading has now been confirmed as a feature of iTunes Match, so you won’t always have to be connected to the Internet to listen to your entire music collection should you choose downloading over streaming and provided you have enough free space on your iDevice or computer.

iTunes music review: “All You Need is Now” by Duran Duran [updated]

As I mentioned would happen in the original December 28, 2010 review, the full version of All You Need is Now has been released. It contains five tracks not on the original iTunes version: “Other People’s Lives,” “Mediterranea,” “Too Bad You’re So Beautiful,” “A Diamond In the Mind” and “Return to Now.” However, there’s a problem here.

iTunes music review: “Mondo Amore” by Nicole Atkins

The problem with reviewing a Nicole Atkins album is that I feel wholly unqualified to do so. This is partially because her sub-genre is not typically my style of music. I see the names tossed around with her—PJ Harvey, Jeff Buckley, et. al.—and I’ve got no interest in any of that. But it’s also that while I’m listening to her music, I can’t help but feel there are things going on that I’m missing. Layers I haven’t discovered, both musically and lyrically.

iTunes TV Show Review: The Ricky Gervais Show Season 1

The title of The Ricky Gervais Show is a lie. For although it does indeed feature Ricky Gervais and his comedy partner Stephen Merchant (well known for their work on The Office and Extras), the star of the show is Karl Pilkington, their former producer and co-host. The basic premise of the show, which is absolutely side-splittingly funny, is this: Ricky and Stephen ask Karl about important matters of the day, such as monkeys in the news, and the meaning of phrases like “People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones,” and then laugh riotously and relentlessly ridicule his unique responses.

iTunes music review: “Fun! Fun! Fun!” and “Free Time” by Shonen Knife

With the recent unveiling of Ping and the announcement of the streamlined Apple TV, Apple has pushed even deeper into the realm of media delivery and promotion. We at Appletell, therefore, feel it’s time we embraced this increasingly important aspect of Apple’s bottom line, and will therefore start to review not only the hardware and software used to deliver the media, but the content itself. And so, we start in music, and we start in the East.

Xmas morning on Google: iPod/iTunes

What were people looking for first thing Christmas morning? As of 8:50 a.m. it was info about their new iPods and/or iTunes gift certificates:

NBC iTunes downloads soar to over one million; free shows available

Lots of great things were revealed at the Let’s Rock event this month. We received updated iPods, saw the unveiling of iTunes 8, and another highlight was Steve Jobs’ announcement that NBC would be returning to iTunes. Naturally, the news was received with much enthusiasm by NBC fans, and I quickly went to download some of the classic TV shows on my MacBook Pro, such as The A Team and Alfred Hitchcock. iTunes users flocked to the NBC offerings since the announcement, as NBC shows have been downloaded over one million times. Now, that’s impressive.

Many questioned why NBC left iTunes in the first place. NBC had an impressive year (2007) before they left iTunes, accounting for 40% of Apple’s iTunes sales. One of the reasons behind NBC leaving iTunes was they wanted to charge a higher price for some of its shows. Apple refused, and they parted ways. It’s nice to see NBC return and doing well.

Kid Rock gives iTunes the cold shoulder

It appears as if Kid Rock won’t be putting his singles or albums up for download on iTunes just yet. The reason for this is that he believes Apple doesn’t pay musicians enough money for putting their music on iTunes. According to him, “iTunes takes the money, the record company takes the money, and they more »
