Apple launches subscriptions on the App Store

As we reported when The Daily was released for iPad, Apple has been working on bringing paid subscriptions to the App Store. Well, that day has come, and Apple has officially announced it. Interestingly, Apple is taking quite a unique approach to this. “Our philosophy is simple—when Apple brings a new subscriber to the app, Apple earns a 30 percent share; when the publisher brings an existing or new subscriber to the app, the publisher keeps 100 percent and Apple earns nothing,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO.

Apple prepping $30/month iTunes TV subscription service?

According to sources for All Things Digital, Apple has been pitching a $30 per month TV subscription service via iTunes in the past weeks. The sources are saying that various TV networks have been approached by Apple about the deal, and if enough support is gained, this could potentially rival the way we’ve accessed our TV through cable for years now.
