Apple TV hacked to play nicely with iOS apps

Apple's TV jailbroken to run iOS apps

The same developers who participated in the creation of the Siri port for many jailbroken iOS devices have created an interesting new hack for Apple TV. The hack, which is in its early stages, will allow Apple TV users to run potentially any iOS app on the $99 set-top-box. According to the developer, Steve Troughton more »

New Apple TV will include Netflix integration

Apple TV has been the subject of a lot of rumors recently, and Apple broke their silence today by announcing a new version of the Apple TV. It’s a much smaller and less expensive version of their “hobby” device that will allow you to watch movies, listen to music and see photos all on your TV. The new box is 80% smaller than previous versions. It uses HDMI to connect to your TV, which is great news for newer HD TVs but it means you shouldn’t expect to be able to easily use it with your older SD television.

Apple’s iTV to stream Netflix

Apple has been rumored to be revamping the Apple TV during tomorrow’s special event, and now Bloomberg is attempting to add some details before that happens. Their sources say that Apple’s new set top box, possibly renamed the iTV, will support Netflix and its Instant Streaming service. What they don’t venture a guess to is how…

Apple to live stream tomorrow’s special event

No joke. Apple has announced that they’ll be providing a live video stream of tomorrow’s special event starting at 10:00 AM PDT on Apple.com. But there’s a catch, you’ll need to have an iDevice with iOS 3.0+ or Mac computer running Snow Leopard with Safari to watch. No problem, right? There’s a first time for everything, I suppose.

Apple blogs and tech magazines have been speculating since well before the initial date about what this event will entail, so before you join us for our live blog at 1:00 p.m. EDT (10:00 a.m. PDT) Wednesday, we thought we’d catch you up on what you may seeing announced in San Francisco.

Official: Apple event September 1st

Kevin Rose: “Apple’s iTV will change everything”

Kevin Rose of Digg.com appears to have received more insider information about the so-called iTV. With iOS TV applications and a la carte video, Kevin believes it could change the way we get our media through content producers. However, he also sees it as a perfect fit for families at the reasonable price of $99. And since so many people have iPads, he also points out something fairly obvious: the iPad would make one killer remote for the device.

Rumor: Apple to reboot Apple TV, rename it iTV?

A recent rumor suggested that a thinner, $99 dollar Apple TV is in the works. However, newer details have since emerged. Supposedly, Apple will this fall be renaming the device the iTV. If you cannot recall, Apple had initially named the Apple TV, you guessed it, the iTV, but changed the name of the device by its release. But what’s in a name?
