iOSOpenDev

A new project entitled iOSOpenDev will allow something that many iOS developers should be excited about: the ability to create unofficial third-party apps, tweaks, themes, etc. right from within Xcode. The project, created by developer Spencer James, is nearing completion and public release, and is almost certain to gain a lot of hype among App Store developers interested in creating something for the jailbreak community.

If you’ve jailbroken your iDevice(s), you may be aware of a really cool tweak in the Cydia Store that provides the ability to multitask through touch gestures alone. This tweak, called Zephyr, has just been updated to version 1.1, bringing with it the ability to also navigate to the home screen without having to use the home button.

Siri port available for jailbroken iOS devices

Apple Siri

When Apple announced Siri integration, many iOS users were disappointed it was only made available for iPhone 4S. With Siri’s capabilities, it’s not surprising developers and hackers from the iPhone jailbreak community are all experimenting with the technology. A number of attempted ports for the older iOS devices were made, but they required a bit more »

redsn0w 0.9.9b7 now available

Ever since the release of iOS 5, the iPhone Dev Team has been releasing constant updates to its redsn0w tool, and another update has made its way out. redsn0w 0.9.9b7 isn’t a major update by any means, as its main purpose is to speed up the jailbreak process by disabling the “stashing” of applications, although this can be re-enabled in redsn0w’s Preferences pane. If left disabled, the stashing process will take place when a user launches Cydia for the first time, instead.

Time Warner’s iPad app update blocks jailbreakers, bypass available

Time Warner Cable has updated its TWCable TV iPad app to version 2.0, introducing new features such as new channels (with over 100 now available), a remote DVR manager, and the ability to view up to seven days worth of listings in its interactive program guide. Along with these new features, though, the company introduced a block against anyone with a jailbroken iPad, which notifies the user that they must restore the device to factory defaults in order to use the app.

Enable iOS 4 features on unsupported iDevices with whited00r

Unfortunately, Apple has a habit of discontinuing support for newer iOS versions on older iDevice hardware, usually two years after the iDevice is released. If you’re one of those people who still have a first or second generation iPhone or iPod touch and wish you could use all those cool iOS 4 features that Apple doesn’t want you to have, you’re in luck.
