TwitkaFly integrates Twitter into jailbroken SpringBoards

Even though Apple has integrated Twitter into iOS 5, it’s still not the full integration one may expect it to be. The Twitter app still exists, which must be used to create new tweets, view your timeline, etc. TwitkaFly by moeSeth takes iOS Twitter integration a step further by implementing it directly within the SpringBoard, giving users the ability to tweet and reply to mentions without ever having to open an app.

redsn0w release fixes App Store issue for jailbreakers

As we reported earlier, those who jailbroke iOS 5 beta 3 using redsn0w 0.9.8b1 would experience issues launching App Store apps due to a sandboxing issue. The iPhone Dev Team has fixed this issue with another redsn0w release (now at version 0.9.8b2) that features an updated kernel to combat the issue. redsn0w 0.9.8b2 is available now for both OS X and Windows.

Project iX to bring GNU/Linux to iDevices

Another exciting project for the jailbroken iDevice community, entitled Project iX, is currently in development. The direct sister project of the iDroid Project—which has ported the Android operating system over to iDevices up to the iPhone 3G and is currently expanding to newer iDevice models—is aiming to port an X11-based GNU/Linux distribution over to iDevices, adding even more possibilities when it comes to running alternative operating systems.

Timestamp your photos with Stampr for jailbroken iPhones

Unfortunately, a key feature that Apple has excluded from iOS and its Camera app is the ability to timestamp your photos. A solution for those with jailbroken iDevices comes from developer Maximus as Stampr, an unofficial third-party tweak that timestamps your photos taken with the stock Camera app. Stampr allows your iDevice to make two copies of a photo that you take, one with a timestamp and one without.

First browser-based app store coming to iOS

In the near future, those with jailbroken iDevices will no longer have to solely rely on Cydia to purchase, download and install all of their favorite unofficial third-party applications. Lima, a new browser-based unofficial app store by the Infini Dev Team, is in development to bring the currently app-based third-party application market to the mobile browser for the first time.

World’s first iPhone worm Rick rolls your phone

The first worm to come to the iPhone doesn’t erase all of your data, steal your information, or even turn your phone into a brick. This worm simply changes your lock screen wallpaper to famous British pop star Rick Astley with a message that reads, “Ikee is never going to give you up.” While it is scary in and of itself that this hacker is able to make such a change to your phone’s data, you’ll be delighted to hear this fear should only be for people with jailbroken iPhones.

Cydia Store available for jailbroken iPhones

For those of you who have been anxiously awaiting the ability to get any type of application on your iPhone, Cydia lead Saurik/Jay Freeman has delivered. The Cydia App Store, which is now available through jailbroken iPhones, has been released and promises to provide all sorts of applications that Apple may not (such as tethering). The store is currently only accepting payments through Amazon Payments, but Freeman has said that PayPal is on its way. Freeman hopes that having less apps on his store will make it easier to find apps that people truly want, compared to the over 15,000 on the legitimate App Store.

Apple says iPhone jailbreaking is illegal

Apple has decided that it’s not only unsupported, but also illegal, to jailbreak your iPhone. Don’t worry yet, though. As of right now, only Apple supports this notion, so unless they hire iCops with real power to arrest, you’ll be safe with your haxx0red iPhone or iPod touch.

Copy and paste comes to jailbroken iPhones

Although jailbroken iPhones aren’t as popular as they used to be since the introduction of the App Store by Apple, a resurge in jailbroken apps may occur due to a new application released on the Cydia package manager: Clippy. The app brings probably the most wanted functionality to the iPhone that has been unavailable since its original release: copy and paste. Although common on many other mobile phones, Apple, for some reason, decided not to include the incredibly useful and needed feature in the iPhone. Thankfully, third party developers have been working on a solution, and came up with Clippy

iPhone and iPod touch DFU mode DOA in new unibody MacBooks?

For the sake of jailbreakers and certain Dev Teams, we should all hope this is false, but rumor has it that the new unibody aluminum MacBooks cannot recognize the DFU mode required to jailbreak current iPhones and iPod touches. Some users in iPhone and iPod touch forums are reporting that their new laptops will not more »
