Ash II: Shadows returns NES RPGs to the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch
SRRN Games’ Ash was one of the more pleasant surprises in iOS gaming, managing to capture the nostalgia of Zelda-style NES role-playing games while working it into a unique story and system that never felt like a rip-off. Now, with Konami Digital Entertainment, SRRN has announced the release of the next chapter in the story—Ash II: Shadows—while reducing the price of the original to only $0.99.
iPhone Appidemic: Frogger Decades
Frogger has always been one of my favorite classic arcade games. This is partly because Froggy’s Lament was one of my favorite tracks off the Buckner & Garcia album, but mostly because I was just really good at the game. It’s one of the few I could play for about 10 minutes on a single quarter. And now, with Frogger Decades, I can play it indefinitely on $0.99. Not a bad deal, even if Froggy’s Lament isn’t featured.
Frogger Inferno and Double Dribble one day giveaway
It’s time for another one day giveaway here at Appletell. We recently reviewed Konami’s Frogger Inferno and Double Dribble Fastbreak here at Appletell. Both are classic games, but do they hold up well in their iPhone incarnations? You could read our review to find out, or you can win your free copies and try them out yourself. Entering is easy, winning takes only a day, so you’d better take care of it quickly.
Appletell reviews three familiar Konami games for iPhone, iPod touch
I’m not entirely sure what’s going on over there at Konami. They’ve got a solid catalog of games, some of which have made their way to the iPhone. Most of those I’ve liked. WireWay, KrazyKart Racing, Metal Gear Solid Touch; all good stuff. But this latest round—Frogger Inferno, Double Dribble Fastbreak and Elebits Capture—seems kind of…pointless? Take a look and see if you agree.
WireWay one day giveaway contest
About a month ago we reviewed WireWay for iPhone and iPod touch, a fantastic arcade puzzle game from Konami. Now, Konami Digital Entertainment has found themselves with a couple promo codes to burn, and asked if we’d like to pass them on to you. Which, of course, we would. You have to hurry, though. The codes expire tomorrow (March 17, 2010), so enter now.
Appletell reviews WireWay for iPhone, iPod touch
WireWay is a game about Wiley the alien and his quest to find Elan (a precious energy source, not a kidnapped princess). You help Wiley on his way by launching him across a series of suspended wires. Wiley grabs the wires automatically, then you touch and drag down on the iPhone screen to adjust his velocity (a dotted line gives you a visual clue). Lift your finger, and watch the little guy fly up (or over) to, hopefully, the next wire. Reach your ship, and it’s on to the next level.
Halloween iPhone apps that could actually be scary
There’s certainly no shortage of Halloween-themed apps in the iTunes App Store. Search “Halloween,” and nearly 200 apps show up. Now, the connection to Halloween with some of these is dubious at best, but that’s still a lot of material. The question is, how many of these apps are actually scary? Not many, but if you do enjoy a good scare on Halloween, I’ve found a couple that will do the trick.
App it Up: Krazy Kart Racers
Krazy Kart Racers, like every cart racing game before it, involves driving through ridiculous race tracks while heaving objects at your opponents (and avoiding theirs in the process). The games are as much about personality as they are about racing, and Krazy Kart Racers is quite successful there. WiFi multiplayer is fantastic, but there’s alto enough variety in the tracks to keep single player racers entertained for quite some time.
Appletell reviews iPhone games you’ve already played elsewhere
Oh, how the people love to have games on the iPhone. Many games are being developed from scratch, of course, but we’re also seeing a lot of games from other platforms being ported over. The good news here is that many of these ports are quite good; occasionally, even better than the original. Here are three games you’ve already played elsewhere, but can now play on your iPhone, too: Pipe Mania, Tyrian and Frogger.
iPhone app shootout: Resident Evil 4 vs. Metal Gear Solid Touch
Okay, games we would’ve never dreamed of seeing on the Mac have found their way to the iPhone. I’m not going to question it, I’m just going to enjoy it. Two standout console titles are amongst the latest high profile games to head our way, and I’ve spent some time trying out both. It’s Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 vs. Konami’s Metal Gear Solid Touch. Which was most successful at making the transition to the iPhone? Let’s take a look.
