Apple wins victory in HTC patent lawsuit
The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) ruled in favor of Apple in the company’s patent lawsuit against HTC, which will result in an import ban of some HTC Android phones starting on April 19, 2012. HTC was found in violation of U.S. Patent No. 5,946,647, which turns an email address, phone number, or other types of information into a link that can be interacted with in a variety of ways. For example, you can tap on a phone number to dial it or an address to open it up with a maps application with directions.
Psystar goes even lower than Microsoft’s Mojave Experiment
A few months ago, I wrote a piece on Microsoft’s Mojave Experiment. The piece had little, if any, good to say about the ads. They were full of misleading ideas, research, and numbers. But they look perfectly angelic in light of Psystar’s recent ad push.
You remember Psystar, right? The company that makes Mac clones that was sued by Apple and is now settling out of court? Well, until they’re shut down, it appears they are going full force. Yesterday, I saw the very first ad for Psystar on YouTube. With the headline “Why buy a used Apple? Experience Mac OS X for less,” I just had to see the case they made for this.
The page the ad took me to was sad to see…
Psystar “definitely still shipping” its Mac clones.
On Wednesday, Psystar, the company now famous for cheap Mac clones, posted a note to its website stating that even during its ongoing lawsuit from Apple, it will still be shipping Open Computers.
Details after the break.
Apple to Psystar – Your products, please.
In a rather speedy conclusion to the suit Apple brought against Mac-cloning company, Psystar, Apple wants to recall all of the clones that Psystar has sold. The suit, filed July 8th, brought eight claims of copyright infringement, breach of contract, trademark and trade infringement, and unfair competition. A mass product recall such as this will more »

Apple defends its “Made for iPod” trademark against Atico
In a move that could possibly gauge howeffective its licensing system for iPod accessories is, Apple has a filed a lawsuit against Atico International for infringing on its “Made for iPod” label. Apple complained that Atico’s iPod speakers product line, which include the AM/FM Portable Boom Box, AM/FM Alarm Clock Radio and Portable Speakers, have violated several of its key patents.
Apple sued for “iMac deception”
Kabateck Brown Kellner, LLP, a law firm from Los Angeles, California, has filed a lawsuit against Apple on behalf of a number of users claiming that Apple “deceptively marketed” its 20-inch iMac by claiming that it has improved display performance, although the device’s monitor is allegedly of “inferior” quality to its previous model. The lawsuit claims that the iMac’s monitors are incapable of displaying “millions of colors,” despite Apple’s marketing claims. “Apple is duping its customers into thinking they’re buying ‘new and improved’ when in fact they’re getting stuck with ‘new and inferior,’” said Brian Kabateck, Managing Partner of Kabateck Brown Kellner. “Beneath Apple’s ‘good guy’ image is a corporation that takes advantage of its customers. Our goal is to help those customers who were deceived and make sure Apple tells the truth in the future.”
The “millions of colors” claim comes from the assertion that while 24-inch iMacs display 16,777,216 colors on 8-bit, in-plane switching (IPS) screens, as did the previous generation of 20-inch iMacs, the new 20-inch iMac monitors display 98 percent fewer colors (262,144).
Apple sued again, iTunes causes more trouble
Another lawsuit involving Apple has been filed by ZapMedia, who claim that syncing media between the store, iTunes, and iPods violates two of their patents. It is important to note that ZapMedia only have two patents, so they’re suing for everything they have. Though, in the end, all they want is Apple’s sweet cash that more »
Apple Allows for Extended iTunes Movie Rentals, Doesn’t Tell Anyone
Macworld’s Christopher Breen discovered quite by accident that Apple allows for you to keep your rentals longer than 24 hours. Apparently, if you pause the movie, and keep it paused, you can finish watching it once you press play again, no matter how long after the expiration it is. For instance, if you start watching more »
