LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars waged on the Mac

This past week, Feral Interactive announced that TT Games and LucasArts’ LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars is available for the Macintosh. Feral describes the game as a “tongue-in-cheek take on the entire Clone Wars era,” implying that there’s somehow anyone left who takes the Star War saga seriously. Regardless, the game recreates scenes from the animated show, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, as well as moments from the theatrical Star Wars saga.

LEGO Indiana Jones 2 for Mac OS X review

Is there a game franchise that’s more fun than the LEGO film games? In terms of exploration, simple challenges, production design, and just sheer happiness, I don’t know that there is a set of games you can pick up and enjoy with such ease. Now we have LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues, which somehow even manages to make Kingdom of the Crystal Skull enjoyable.

Appletell reviews The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition for Mac OS X

This is kind of a pointless review to write. You’re either the type of gamer who will play an enhanced version of an adventure game originally released twenty years ago, or you’re not. Personally, I’m unapologetic in my love for the adventure games of the ’90s, and am therefore unapologetic in my love for The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition.

Appletell reviews Tales of Monkey Island for Mac OS X

At Macworld Expo 2010, Telltale games officially announced their foray into Mac gaming with Tales of Monkey Island. Likely, it couldn’t have been a better choice of games; it’s a franchise familiar to Mac gamers, it harkens back to a time when Mac ports were commonplace, and it’s a comic adventure that appeals to both casual and serious gamers. Two of us here at Appletell have played through the game, so we decided to have a quick chat about how this new episodic adventure turned out.

Aspyr unveils a Monkey Island secret of their own

I’ve apparently been so busy exploring Monkey Island for the Mac that I didn’t realize Monkey Island is coming to Mac. Telltale Games recently brought us Tales of Monkey Island, and now Aspyr is also sailing back in time to bring us The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition. Originally released for Xbox Live Arcade and PC last summer, this special edition can be pre-ordered now through Aspyr’s GameAgent service for only $9.99.

Appletell reviews Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Ultimate Sith Edition

The problem with the Jedi is that they’re hypocrites. They kill, they’re trained to kill, they carry quite possibly the greatest hand-to-hand weapon ever imagined, but we collectively pretend they’re really pacifists who kill thousands of Stormtroopers in defense. And they say they feel kinda bad about it (when asked). The Force Unleashed gets around this rather neatly by making you a Sith apprentice. Specifically, you’re Darth Vader’s apprentice, being trained by him to assassinate the Emperor.

Full Throttle as cinema

Older gamers will have fond memories of Full Throttle, a title that, in my opinion, is a contender for Best Mac Game Ever. Yes, even in a battle with X-Wing—and small wonder, since they were both produced by Lucasarts. In Full Throttle you play a biker named Ben who’s set up for a murder and spends the rest of the game tracking down the rat who done him wrong. Along the way, you point-and-clicked your way through some devious puzzles and hilarious dialogue towards an ending that was truly cinematic.

The 10 lamest adventure games of all time

Gamers, like all people, tend to be nostalgic for their youth. We wax poetic about Galaga, our first time blowing up the vector graphic Death Star, and almost all of Myst (except the ending…no one liked the ending of Myst).

However, just because a game is old doesn’t make it a classic, and the Topless Robot pop culture blog has compiled a list of The 10 Lamest PC Adventure Games of All Time, several of which were ported to the Mac.
