Apple patents point to iMac Touch
The website Patently Apple has uncovered some rather interesting European patents from Apple concerning what they call the iMac Touch. It’s a desktop system that has all of the benefits and features of both a standard desktop computer and a large touch interface. One thing is for sure…I want one. Patently Apple’s “summary” of the patent filings is actually quite long. It’s more than just a quick read, so let me condense it for you.
Apple’s tablet glass photographed in the wild?
Rumors are flying like never before now that Apple’s January 27th event is so close. Here’s the latest from The Mac Observer. The images they’ve posted appear to be of the glass on the front of Apple’s unannounced tablet. But are they real? The sizing and proportions are right, but what faker wouldn’t get that right? Still, this is the sort of thing that slips through the cracks (intentionally?) when Apple events come closer.
Apple Tablet to have multitouch tactile screen?
Apple has filed another patent for a screen capable of dynamically representing virtual buttons as physical buttons. With resent reports of Steve Jobs not only being happy with the much rumored Apple Tablet, but that we’d be surprised to find out how we interact with it, this doesn’t seem so far fetched. The problem with multitouch screens, like those of the iPhone, is that the user can only perceive the buttons displayed on the screen as images.
Alex Albrect “Shocked” at Apple tablet price point
If you’re a watcher of Diggnation, then you already know Alex Albrecht was “shocked” to hear how low the price of the long rumored Apple tablet will be. Diggnation doesn’t have a spotless record as far as Apple rumors go, but they have occasionally been right in the past. Alex doesn’t really even have a record for such leaks like this, but even if he is just having fun with all of us, what price point for Apple’s tablet would cause you to be shocked?
An Apple tablet by any other name…
iTouch, MacBook touch, the Apple Tablet…it’s been called a lot of names, all except perhaps a currently available product, but there’s reason to believe Apple may have decided on a name for our much wanted device. Sounds like we might be calling it the TabletMac…well maybe. A company called Axiotron had been marketing a device called a TabletMac, and this trademarked term has transferred hands from Axiotron to Apple.
Apple Tablet delayed until late 2010?
The rumors just keep rolling in on Apple’s now legendary tablet. Sadly, they don’t always get better. The latest rumor from DigiTimes claims we’ll have to wait even longer to get our hands on that Apple Tablet we all want so badly. But don’t get too sad, the extended wait is said to bring some benefits, like a lower price and an OLED option.
Apple patents pen-based tablet input
In the past, Apple had not been fond of stylus or pen-based input, but it seems that ignorance of the pen is nowhere to be found when it comes to tablets. This July, Apple filed a patent for pen-based input for tablets involving what they call “ink phrases.” The patent details a different approach to handwriting recognition; instead of breaking down individual strokes, it attempts to recognize entire phrases.
The “impending” Apple tablet
Another day, another rumor about the “impending” Apple Tablet. Today, the internet was on fire with talk about a leaked picture of what could be the SIM card tray for the rumored Apple Tablet. And if that wasn’t quite enough to get you to stop yawning, Bill Keller, executive editor at the New York Times, made a not-so-off-the-record speech about the New York Times‘ web presence. In that speech, he made reference to an Apple Tablet as if he knows something we don’t know. I’m not convinced
Apple Special Event possible during week of September 7th
You’ve been waiting, and now you have to wait just a little longer…maybe. The guys over at AllThingsD have heard from music industry sources that Apple executives have told them the company will be holding a keynote event for the week of September 7th. Honestly, this isn’t that big of a surprise. Heck, it’s almost tradition for Apple to tease us with rumors all summer and then hold a special event after Labor Day.
Apple shoots footage for a new ad with mystery product
Word—according to Sierra Sun—has it that Apple shot footage for an advertisement on Tuesday afternoon at Jax on the Tracks in Truckee, CA. This is a rare act on Apple’s part, considering most of their ads are shot in studio. “Apple found us, they’re trying to show us as a hip and cool spot for the 20-something crowd,” said Bud Haley, owner of Jax on the Tracks.
