Mozilla releases Firefox 7
Although Firefox 6 was released just last month, Mozilla has been working hard on the next major update, and today marks its official public release. Firefox 7 brings memory and engine improvements to make it faster and more reliable than ever, improving memory handling to use 50% less memory when addressing memory leaks, crashes, and general instability when multiple tabs are open.
Mozilla officially releases Firefox 6
Changes in the new version of the browser include a 20% speed increase from Firefox 5, improving the behavior and start-up times of tab groups in Panorama, highlighted domain names in the address bar, and other bug fixes and improvements. Another new feature meant strictly for web developers is the new “Web Developer” menu in Firefox 6 that provides these developers with easy access to tools to help them build and debug their web site directly from within the browser.
Firefox 5 update to combat OS X Lion crashing issue
Users who are running OS X Lion have been experiencing crashing issues with Firefox 5 when loading a web page that uses downloadable fonts. Mozilla, the team behind the browser, has stated that a minor update (build 5.0.1) is on the way in order to fix the crashing issue before Lion makes its way into the hands of the public this month.
Mozilla releases Firefox 5
After a few months of testing, Mozilla has officially released the new version of their popular web browser. Firefox 5 introduces over a thousand new features and enhancements, such as improved sync support, improved updating for add-ons, increases in both speed and performance, the addition of a “do not track” option within the privacy settings, improved spell checking with support for many languages, and improved support for HTML5, MathML, XHR, and CSS animation.
Google to release new browser
There’s a new player the the browser wars, and it’s Google.
Google announced on the company blog today that they will be launching the beta of “Google Chrome” tomorrow morning for Windows, with versions for the Mac and Linux set to roll out in the coming weeks.
This certainly won’t ease tensions in Google’s “Cold War” with Microsoft, as now the folks in Redmond will have another innovate product to “compete” with.

7 ways that Apple can improve Safari
With the recent release of Firefox 3, Safari finally is seeing some serious competition in the browser space. Its reign as the fastest browser on the Mac seems to be over for the time being, and Firefox’s usage share continues to climb both on the Mac and on Windows.
Now, this isn’t to say I don’t like Safari; in fact, I use it as my everyday browser. It’s just that the competition is finally really heating up, and it’s about time Apple made some improvements to set Safari apart once again.
