How to enable Netflix Watch Instantly in Google Chrome
I’m a fan of the Google Chrome browser, but it does have one glaring drawback: unlike Safari and Firefox, it isn’t supported by Netflix Watch Instantly, which means that if I want to watch a movie, I have to switch browsers. It turns out this problem isn’t with Chrome or Silverlight, but with Netflix, and a simple bit of code enables Watch Instantly on Chrome.
Netflix coming (Instantly) to an iPhone near you, soon?
Love Netflix’s Watch Instantly feature? What Netflix subscriber doesn’t? The feature is awesome for really getting a ton of use out of your monthly subscription, given that you have the time next to your computer. If time next to the computer is an issue, then perhaps it will excite you to read the report from Multichannel News about the possibility of Netflix making the Watch Instantly feature into an iPhone app.
Three Netflix apps for iPhone
Netflix is the popular movie service where users can create a list of DVDs they want to watch, which are then mailed one at a time. In addition, Netflix has recently added a streaming component (“Watch Instantly“) where you can watch from your computer.
The problem with this, of course, is that the service simply isn’t obsessive enough. Sure, you can update your queue whenever you’re at your computer, but what if you’re out walking around, and you suddenly realize you need to watch The 400 Blows this week, or move Tommy Boy to the top of your list? What then?
Fortunately, there are a slew of apps for managing your Netflix account from your iPhone or iPod touch, and today I’m looking at three: two free, and one available for $0.99.
Netflix Watch Instantly: First Impressions
As a long-time Netflix user, I was one of the many Mac users who were peeved by the delay in getting a version of their stream “Watch Instantly” (WI) service for Macs, and even more peeved when I found out that when the Mac version was available, it was going to be a slow rollout focusing on new users. So, naturally, as soon as I found out that users could opt-in for the beta, I clicked over as fast as I could.
I’m not a complete novice to the service, having installed it on my Boot Camp partition (Windows XP). Having tried the new service, I can say that while one aspect is much, much better on the Mac, the service isn’t yet perfect.
The wait is over for your Mac to Watch Instantly on Netflix
That’s right. We’ve waited long enough for Netflix to roll out the Watch Instantly happiness for Macs. It seems like everything else under the sun got support first, including PCs, set top boxes, and even the XBOX 360, which can barely support its own hardware. What’s the catch? Oh you, you just knew there was something, didn’t you?
There’s always something…
