Nisus Writer Pro 2 word processor review

I collect word processors like some people collect tiny spoons. Difference is, though, that I use all my word processors. I’ve got Storyist for writing novels, Montage writing stage plays, Pages for heavier layouts, and when I need to open a Word document, I’ve got Word. Different functions, different tools. But if I had to get rid of them all and use just one word processor for everything, it’d currently be Nisus Writer Pro 2.

Nisus Writer Pro and Express now Lion compatible

The Nisus Writers Pro and Express are now fully Lion compatible via updates released today. The updates are free for owners of Nisus Writer Express 3.x and Nisus Writer Pro, and fix a handful of bugs in addition to adding Lion compatibility. The already Lion compatible Nisus Writer Pro 2 has also been updated with a few fixes and support for full screen.

Snow Leopard marks domain over RTF; here’s how to reclaim your territory

Looks like Snow Leopard is an alpha male, at least when it comes to the RTF document format. If you use a word processor that saves to RTF by default, you’ll notice quite quickly that Snow Leopard is going to take control of all of your files, forcing them to open in TextEdit. In other words, double clicking your Nisus Writer documents or any filed tagged .rtf is going to launch TextEdit, not the program you used to create the file. Thankfully, there is a work around, and chances are you already know how to do it.

Nisus Software announces the Nisus After the Expo Sale

Nisus Software, Inc. has announced that from now until January 21, they are offering both Nisus Writer Express and Nisus Writer Pro at 15% off the regular price. The discount also works for upgrades, family packs, and even the Nisus Writer Pro printed manual.

Nisus Writer Pro word processor updated to v1.2

Nisus Software has announced the release of Nisus Writer Pro 1.2. This latest version of their critically acclaimed (and my personal favorite) word processor adds a completely new file importer that improves file translations, especially for the .doc format. Additionally, export as Word file format (.doc) and the Open Document (.odt) format has been added. The Table of Contents feature also has a few new options: tab/backtab can be used to promote or demote TOC levels, and TOC entries can be rearranged by drag and drop within the navigator pane.

Other new features include automatically updating time stamps, Flesch and Kincaid reading ease scores, additional backup options, a Macroize menu, and editable document properties (author, company, copyright, etc.). There have also been additions to the Nisus Macro Language. A host of bug fixes and other enhancements have also been included.

Of these updates, I’m most curious to try out the new Word translations. Find out why after the break.
