CES 2012: miniStack Max adds storage and connectivity to the Mac Mini

The miniStack Max fits right on top of the Mac Mini and combines a CD/DVD drive, a hard drive up to 4 TB, an SD card reader, and additional ports (USB 3/2, FireWire 800/400, eSata) including a USB port that can be used to recharge an iPad or other iDevice. If you just want additional hard drives and ports, you can get the miniStack instead.

OWC starts iMac Turnkey Program for 2011 models

In May 2011 Other World Computing discovered that if you install a non-factory hard drive in the 2011 iMacs the fans would run at full speed all of the time. This was a great disappointment to those who like to upgrade their iMacs for extra performance and power. Fortunately, after a lot of hard work and effort, OWC discovered a fix that would not only cause no reduction in performance, but be 100% compatible with the Apple Hardware Test and maintain proper fan operation as well.

iMac HDDs no longer replaceable in newest line-up

According to Other World Computing, Apple’s newest line of iMacs can no longer have their HDDs replaced because Apple has begun using 7-pin SATA power connectors being controlled by a combination of the cable and Apple’s proprietary firmware on the drive, rather than the former 4-pin connectors.
