Apple, Snow Patrol and others to offer Interactive Album App for iPhone/iPod touch
Apple is working with Snow Patrol, an Irish Alternative band, on a new iPhone/iPod touch application that will allow users to (you guessed it) pay for interactive content for the band’s upcoming album, “A Hundred Million Suns.” The app will utilize the touchscreen, and provide a very new spin on the old Album liner booklets. As Polydor, Snow Patrol’s label, production manager Liz Goodwin says, “It will be an interactive element; a digital booklet that will take you into the videos and content. For fans, it will be a real must-have, and the fact that they are the first band to do this gives us an additional angle for exposure.”
This seems like a cool idea for die-hard fans of the band, and if Apple was to partner with other bands that are even more popular, then the mass of people would be excited about something like this, which seems superfluous. However, Apple will probably make a lot of money, from the simple idea that one no longer has to buy a CD to have all the additional information that comes with one.
More after the break.
