Free Apps Roundup for December 30, 2011
It’s almost the end of 2011, and I say let’s wrap up the year with just a few more free apps to keep that home screen of yours full. Yes, it’s been quite the year for the App Store, the kind of year that has reminded you why app folders are necessary. I found one more »
Lion Server to be released in July for $49 on the Mac App Store
After all of today’s WWDC news on the new features OS X Lion (Apple has seemingly dropped the “Mac” from Snow Leopard and Lion’s title) will have to offer once it is released this July for only $29.99 in the Mac App Store, Lion Server will likely also be released on the same day (certainly, at least, in the same month).
Push and SMS notifications enabled for Twitter iPhone app
If the arrival of Google Voice to the iPhone got you a bit excited, here’s another announcement that may please you. This time it’s from the folks at Twitter, who have announced that they have updated the official Twitter for iPhone app. The app is now officially on version 3.2.1, and with the new version comes push and SMS notifications for @mentions. Once enabled on your account, you will start receiving SMS and push notifications whenever a Twitter account you follow mentions you on their tweets.
Facebook iPhone app update brings push notifications, contact sync
The Facebook iPhone application has been amongst the top downloaded applications on the App Store from it’s release. Since then, it has come a long way in terms of development and what it is capable of. However, the latest point release of the application may bring some of the most exciting features to the application. The two updates listed by the developer were push notifications and contact sync.

App it Up: Ping!
Ping! is an iDevice to iDevice messaging application (similar to BlackBerry Messenger on Blackberry smartphones) that makes use of Apple’s Push Notification service, and is said to be a replacement for SMS or other IM clients. Ping! uses data from a 3G/EDGE or WiFi connection rather than SMS messages, and therefore can potentially save users a lot of money.
Apple and AT&T to add new phone features to next iPhone OS update?
Word from MacNN has it that Apple and AT&T may together add support to the iPhone for overage alerts and new Voicemail settings. These feature may find their way on to an iPhone near you as soon as iPhone OS 3.1, which we are expecting in the not too distant future.
iPhone 3.0 push notifications delayed? [updated]
One of the most talked about and anticipated features of the new iPhone OS 3.0 is the push notification system. By using push notifications, app developers will be able to notify iPhone users when they have received new information relating to one of their registered apps that use this new technology. This concept was first announced last summer, and finally released with the new iPhone OS? Yes, sort of.
iPhone OS 3.0: Everything you need to know…so far
Today’s iPhone OS 3.0 preview was quite the show. Apple almost outdid themselves by catching up on all standard features of regular cell phones, and then some. Amongst today’s biggest features were items such as Copy and Paste, Push Notifications, Turn by turn GPS and MMS. But that’s not all, Apple states there are well over 100 new features or improvements to be experienced in iPhone OS 3.0 coming this June, so let’s take a look at what’s in store.
Why Apple can do whatever the hell they want to
Today, I read an interesting article on MrGadget about why Apple needs to release the next generation of the iPhone soon. If they don’t, apparently Palm is going to break the deathgrip that Apple has on its growing portion of the cell phone market today. Needless to say, I wholeheartedly disagree (even though I want to see another iPhone just as much as the next Apple fanboy), and here are my reasons why.
