Just a few days ago, BigBoss had released its SemiTether package on Cydia, which is basically a tweak that allows iDevice owners running iOS 5 who have performed a tethered jailbreak to be able to reboot and use their iDevice (minus any unofficial third-party apps, tweaks, and themes) without having to boot tethered using a Mac or PC. v0.9.1 offers increased stability along with a bunch of fixes and new features.

Cydia creator Jay Freeman has been bringing all of his work up-to-date with iOS 5, and has just updated Winterboard to be compatible with the newest iOS version. Winterboard is a free iOS app that allows users to alter their iDevice’s appearance to their liking using themes that can be downloaded/purchased in Cydia. The iOS 5 compatible version of Winterboard has been in beta for about a week before its release, and is now available publicly in Cydia.

Within 24 hours of the first iOS 5 beta being released to developers, iOS hacker MuscleNerd from the iPhone Dev Team has already managed to accomplish a tethered jailbreak on the firmware thanks to the recently popular limera1n exploit. For those that are unfamiliar, a tethered jailbreak requires that you plug the iDevice into a Mac or PC every time you reboot it, while an untethered jailbreak allows for a standard reboot just as with any non-jailbroken iDevice.

If you’ve been following iPhone jailbreaking and related information for a while now you’re probably familiar with the company. There is no doubt they have brought the jailbreak community many great things, from Installer to Kate to the more recent Icy. Sadly, RipDev will be leaving the iPhone community for reasons that they do not wish to disclose.
