Free Apps Roundup for January 27, 2012

shazamplayerapp

This week on the Free Apps Roundup: Can’t tell what the song you’re listening to is trying to say? It can be difficult. That’s why Shazam is back with a new app to add information to your music. Shazam Player will stream the lyrics straight to your device, so you can finally know what Fall Out Boy is saying. In addition, Steam released their beta mobile app, and I found a number of great limited time freebies to keep your device brimming with apps.

Unlimited song tagging on Shazam returns to the free application

The music mobile discovery provider Shazam has given an update to its application that brings back unlimited tagging for songs. Back in 2008 when Apple opened its doors to its first app store for the iPhone and iPod Touch, it was one of the most popular downloaded applications. The Shazam application was offered as a free download, and it had the ability to tag unlimited amount of songs that you wanted to listen to without any restrictions. That changed in 2009.

Shazam database reaches 8 million songs

Due to new partnerships and exciting new material, Shazam has announced it has increased its music database from 6 million to 8 million items. With this number, Shazam now can search the widest range of music to allow its users to discover pre-release and specialist music. And with 20 million customers searching more than 100 million tracks (numbers as of September 2008), this addition of songs will be very welcome. Put simply, Shazam’s usefulness has quickly made it one of the most downloaded apps on Apple’s App Store (I’m sure the iPhone ads helped, also).
