Apple fixes app store issues on older iOS devices
A recent update to Apple’s App Store, possibly on 16th of December, apparently caused issues for iPhone and iPod touch owners running the older iOS 3.1.1 on their devices. However, Apple has now quietly issued an update to the App Store, bringing a quick solution to many disgruntled iOS users who were faced with this dilemma. Even, though there isn’t an official statement from Apple, the issue seems to be solved.
Apple releases new OS X 10.7.3 beta to developers
Apple has pushed a new developer beta for Mac OS X 10.7.3; registered developers can downloaded it now from the iOS Dev Center. This is the third developer beta of OS X 10.7.3. Apple has instructed developers to continue focusing on and test app compatibility within the iCloud document storage, Address Book, Mail, iCal, Spotlight, and Safari.
Apple TV software update v4.4.4 now available
Just about a month after the release of the Apple TV v4.4.3, Apple has released a new update that will bring it to v4.4.4 (Build 9A406a). The release notes from Apple state the update includes the basic improvements: software stability, a performance and a fix related to an error when attempting to play certain types of video content. The acts similarly like the previous build, featuring only the small bug fixes and nothing more.
Apple seeds second version of Mac OS X 10.7.3 to developers
Apple has pushed the new 11D24 build for the Mac OS X 10.7.3 to developers. This new build is to expand developers interest into improving Apple’s services like iCloud Document Storage, Address Book, iCal, and Mail. Apple asked developers to focus their attention to a whole new list of areas such as Spotlight and Safari. As we reported a few weeks back, this new 10.7.3 built will make it the second maintenance update for OS X Lion sent to developers.
Apple seeds version Mac OS X 10.7.3 to developers
Yesterday afternoon, Apple released to developers the third update to Mac OS X Lion. OS X v10.7.3 will mainly focus on software improvements for iCloud document storage as well as the AddressBook, iCal, and Mail apps. The update weighs in at 633MB and, as usual, comes with warnings for developers that once the update is installed there will not be a possibility to revert back to a previous version of the OS. Developers are asked by Apple to focus on any bugs that can be found in Apple’s native apps.
Apple releases digital camera RAW compatibility update 3.9
Apple has just released a Digital Camera RAW compatibility update, adding support for additional digital cameras in both Aperture 3 and iPhoto ’11. Whether you have any need for the Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.9, it’s available now (for free, of course) in Software Update and in Apple’s Support Downloads section.
OS X 10.6.8 is available now
Apple Computer released OS X v10.6.8 yesterday, which is very likely to be the last version of Snow Leopard before OS X 10.7 Lion. It’s recommended for everyone and will improve the general performance of your Mac as well as making it easier to upgrade to Lion and includes the fixes in all of the previous updates. iMac Graphic Firmware Update 2.0 released
Apple has just addressed an issue with its 2011 iMac line-up running Mac OS X v10.6.7 that had caused iMacs to hang at startup or when awaking from sleep mode with its latest Graphic Firmware Update 2.0 specifically for iMacs. The update is less than a megabyte in size and should completely eradicate these rare issues for those who have been affected by them. It is recommended that you do not shut down your computer while the update is being installed, as that could cause the iMac to hang at startup.
Netflix updates iOS app with subtitle support
Today, Netflix updated their Universal iOS app for streaming Instant Watch content with support for subtitles (where available). Whether you’re watching something foreign, are hard of hearing or just think the book was better, the Netflix iOS app version 1.3 has you covered. It should be noted that not all Netflix content has subtitles to begin with, but if subtitles are available, you’ll see a caption icon on the playback controls.
Over the air iOS updates coming with iOS 5?
Wouldn’t you like to be able to apply Apple’s latest iOS updates to your iDevice without plugging it into your computer and waiting? Of course you would, and if the rumor is correct, that’s just what Apple intends to do starting with iOS 5. You’d still have to apply that last iOS update to 5 the old fashion way though.
