Team Fortress 2 – F’ Yeah!
Valve Software announced they are going out of business today—oh, I’m sorry, Valve Software proved they are committed to Mac gaming today (you can see how I made my mistake) by announcing the immediate release of Team Fortress 2 via their Steam delivery system. The game, which was released in 2007 (so it’s like it came out yesterday for Mac users) pits teams of players in various multiplayer matches.
Half-Life 2, Eve Online: Tyranis now on Mac
Yesterday, Valve released the third round of Steam for the Mac launch titles. There are some big ones this time around, as this week’s collection includes the Half-Life 2 (HL2) series of games (Half-Life 2, Episode One, and Episode Two) and Eve Online: Tyranis. To celebrate the launch of the Half-Life 2 games, the titles are available for 30% off their regular price for a limited time.
Single Mac Gamer Seeks Steam(y) gaming action
Sometimes when I’m in the mood to talk specifically about games, I do so over at Gamertell. This week, in my Single Mac Gamer Seeks column, I focus solely on Steam—Valve’s digital distribution platform that’s now available for the Mac. Portal, City of Heroes: Architect Edition, Torchlight and Guns of Icarus already available. With more promised (Portal 2, Half-Life 2, Left for Dead (1 & 2) and Counter-Strike), just how much of an impact will this have on Mac gaming?
Mac users get free Portal for a limited time
As promised, Valve has rolled out the Mac version of Steam, the digital distribution platform for computer gaming. The software is available for immediate download at steamgames.com. Each Wednesday, a new group of games highlighting an area of Steam functionality will be released. This week’s titles show off Steam Play, but the big news is that Valve is making Portal available for free for a limited time.
Steam for Mac rollout to feature Portal and Torchlight
Steam—Valve’s digital distribution platform for computer gaming—will be arriving on the Macintosh tomorrow, May 12th. Today, Valve announced that on subsequent Wednesdays, additional collections of Mac titles will become available, each designed to highlight specific functionalities of Steam on the Mac. The first collection will demonstrate “Steam Play,” and features the games Portal and Torchlight.
Steam for the Mac: May 12
Valve sent out a very brief announcement last night that Steam—their digital distribution platform for computer gaming—will be fogging up your Mac monitor on May 12. That’s it. That’s all they had to say. But isn’t that enough? I mean, you all know it means games such as Portal 2, Half-Life 2, Left for Dead (1 & 2), Portal and Counter-Strike will be hitting the Mac, right?
Gaming gets serious – Steam coming to Mac
On Monday, Valve announced that Steam—and the Source engine—will be making their way to the Macintosh platform next month. It’ll take time to see the same amount of titles available for the PC, but there are some popular games planned for the initial launch. Portal 2 will be the first title out of the gates, with Half-Life 2, Left for Dead (1 & 2), Portal and Counter-Strike following closer behind in April.
