One year ago today Navigon’s Mobile Navigator debuted on the App Store. It’s arguably the best turn by turn guidance app available and the one that I consistently recommend. And it’s even easier to recommend it when they do something awesome like slash their prices by half across the board. iPhone GPS guidance apps aren’t quite a dime a dozen, but there are more than enough choices to make you, the consumer, wonder which fits your needs the best. Let’s take a look at Magellan’s Roadmate 2010 North America.

TomTom might be the first and last name you think of when you consider guidance of the GPS sort, but is the TomTom car kit for iPhone—along with the TomTom app for iPhone—the holy grail of iPhone GPS navigation? According to Yann Lafargue, PR for TomTom, the much anticipated TomTom iPhone cradle will do more than just keep your iPhone’s battery topped off. Its GPS enhancing abilities seem to take advantage of the dock connector on not just the iPhone, but also the iPod touch to enhance (or to add support for) GPS.

TomTom appeared on stage at this years WWDC showcasing their GPS application and in-car accessories, stating that the app would be available in the near future. Not a minute too soon, TomTom for iPhone has appeared in the App Store in various versions, so far including New Zealand ($94.99), US & Canada ($99.99), Australia ($79.99) and Western Europe ($139.99).
