Free apps roundup for January 21st, 2011

Intuit rewriting Quicken from scratch

Finance software company Intuit has or is in the process of rewriting it’s popular Quicken and TurboTax titles for the Mac, from scratch.

Quicken dates back to OS 9, and is a Carbon app. The new version of Quicken, completely re-written, will be called “Quicken Financial Life for Mac.” MacRumors reports it will include many Mac OS X technologies and features:

  • Cocoa based
  • CoreData for information storage
  • Universal Binary
  • Mac OS 10.5 Leopard Only
  • Coverflow and other Mac OS specific views
