The developers behind Tweetbot—a Twitter client for iOS that is a favorite among many—bring some exciting news with the release of version 2.0 of its iPhone/iPod touch client and the initial release of its iPad client. Tapbots’ Tweetbot 2.0 brings with it some new features and improvements for the mobile Twitter client, while Tweetbot for iPad brings the app onto Apple’s tablet in a way that iPad owners will surely appreciate.

Activator updated to support iOS 5 features

Developers of both App Store and unofficial Cydia applications have been hard at work updating their work to support the newly released iOS 5. A popular free Cydia tweak that is well-known among jailbreakers, called “Activator,” has joined many other Cydia packages in now being fully iOS 5 compatible, even adding support for iOS 5′s new features.

Official Twitter iOS app updated with new features

Ahead of iOS 5′s public release with Twitter integration, Twitter’s official iOS app has been updated with some new features. Most notable is a new sign up procedure that allows apps that use Twitter credentials to log in or sign up to query the iOS Settings app for user-specified Twitter credentials, eliminating the need for those users to enter their Twitter log-in and password every time they use an application with Twitter features.

Cirrus Thinking offering college students 1GB of free cloud storage

Cirrus Thinking, creators of the Dolly Drive cloud storage service specifically designed for use with Apple’s Time Machine, is now offering 1,000 college students 1GB of free Dolly Drive storage along with the chance to win $1,000 in college spending money. Dolly Drive works by using Apple’s native Time Machine app for backing up specified content every so often, storing that content in the cloud rather than on an external disk.

Apple Store lets you share products on Facebook and Twitter

Apple’s Store was offline for a few hours earlier this week and, as always, people investigated for any changes or additions. They discovered that now you can share the configuration for the Mac Pro and iPod classic on Facebook and Twitter. You use the pop-up menu on the select button that you use to configure that model.

Update your Mac’s Twitter client

If you’re a Twitter user, you’ve probably got Tweetie installed on your Mac. The most popular of Mac Twitter clients, there’s been quite a history around it. As you probably know, Twitter has put a lot of time into updating their mobile application for the iPhone and iPad. Therefore, the Mac client sort of lagged behind. However, with the launch of the Mac App Store, that has changed. Already the top free app at the time this was written, Twitter for Mac has now been updated to version 2.0.

Occipital brings 360 degree gyro-controlled panoramas to mobile Safari

Occipital has announced an awesome reason to buy their new app 360 Panorama—gyroscope controlled panoramas viewable and controllable from mobile Safari. All you need is iOS 4.2+ and a link to any panorama created by the app. They’d really like you to help create your own “augmented reality” panoramas and spread them around, so they’re doing a launch sale, making the price of 360 Panorama just $0.99.

Gameloft to give away one free game a day until December 25th

Starting Today, Gameloft is giving away one game per day until Christmas. That’s right, you don’t even have to pretend to look for money in your post-Black Friday wallet to get some great games on the App Store. All you have to do is follow Gameloft’s Twitter account for their daily announcement for the next 24 days. It’s a Festivus, er, Christmas miracle.

Push and SMS notifications enabled for Twitter iPhone app

If the arrival of Google Voice to the iPhone got you a bit excited, here’s another announcement that may please you. This time it’s from the folks at Twitter, who have announced that they have updated the official Twitter for iPhone app. The app is now officially on version 3.2.1, and with the new version comes push and SMS notifications for @mentions. Once enabled on your account, you will start receiving SMS and push notifications whenever a Twitter account you follow mentions you on their tweets.
