Could Apple be your next phone company?
An Apple-branded cell service could come in the form of a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), which is cell service offered by a company that does not physically own a license to the radio frequencies or tower/cable infrastructure necessary for providing that service. MVNOs instead lease capacity from other companies who do maintain the infrastructure, and Apple may be in a position to do just that.
Verizon will be selling CDMA iPad in the future
Whoops! After doing such a great job of keeping their lips sealed about today’s iPhone announcement, an executive at Verizon let a big secret slip out in an interview today. Francis Shammo, chief financial officer of Verizon Communications Inc. told Bloomberg that Verizon will be selling a CDMA-enabled iPad in the future.
Verizon starts advertising iPad and MiFi 3G router combo with “Breakaway” commercial
You still can’t buy the mythical Verizon iPhone, but you can buy an iPad from them along with a MiFi 3G router. Verizon has begun to air their “Breakaway” commercial advertising the combo on the Verizon network. For the same initial price as the 3G iPad, you can get a WiFi iPad and Verizon MiFi 2200 mobile hotspot. But is it cheaper to go with Verizon or AT&T? Help!
iPad hitting Verizon and AT&T stores on October 28th
There you go. After becoming the all time fastest selling gadget (as announced by Bernstein Research financial analyst Colin McGranahan), Apple will carry the iPad momentum to the store shelves of AT&T and Verizon Wireless. Both major carriers have officially announced they will start offering iPads to customers on October 28.
The iPad and AT&T; here we go again
Since the announcement that AT&T would providing 3G coverage for Apple’s iPad, lots of people have asked “Why?” This question is based on the fact that many people have been very disappointed—and even frustrated—by the performance of AT&T’s 3G network performance and coverage. But I think the answer to why AT&T was chosen again is not as much an issue of network performance as it is network technology.
