Rumor: Verizon iPhone all but confirmed with NYC event
Although it wasn’t by December of 2010, it appears as if the iPhone is actually coming to Verizon for real this time. What makes me say that? M.G. Siegler, a self proclaimed Apple fanboy for TechCrunch, received an invite to a Verizon event in New York City for Tuesday, January 11th. Who didn’t? Gizmodo, even though they usually do get invites to Verizon events. Could the stars be aligning?
AT&T confirmed to have iPhone exclusivity through 2012
According to documents released from a California class action lawsuit, it has been confirmed that AT&T has iPhone exclusivity until the year 2012. While this was the initial agreement reached between Apple and the company back in 2007 when the first iPhone launched, there has been no word on whether the terms were ever renegotiated. This means a couple of things, including the fact that we most likely won’t be seeing that Verizon iPhone we were hoping for this summer.
Rumor: Verizon iPhone by December 2010?
Well, we’ve certainly heard this rumor time and time again. This time around, it goes as follows: a man who has recently visited his local Verizon store was inquiring about the iPhone as he wants one but is holding out for the Verizon network to get it. The Verizon employee eventually “… got this excited look on their face and with boldness the employee declared ‘we’re getting one’ of the iPhone.”
Apple joins the AT&T vs. Verizon battle
No longer is this attack ad battle between Verizon and AT&T, as Apple has now stepped their foot through the door. With two new ads involving the iPhone and that same unusually perfect hand, Apple points out some of the things that are possible on AT&T’s network. The interesting part about Apple’s ads, though, is that they don’t mention Verizon.
Droid price drops to $120 in some places, selling well
So you want a new iPhone 3GS? That’ll cost you $199 plus a two year contract with AT&T that can easily cost $90+ a month for one person. But what if you want a Motorola Droid? While that will cost you $200 with a two year contract at Verizon, this isn’t your only option. Dell is selling the Droid for a slim $119.99 price tag with a service contract.
Droid appearing on Google and causing lines, what about iPhone?
The day of the Droid came and left with relatively little press coverage compared to what we’ve seen from the iPhone in previous launches. However, that isn’t to say the Droid isn’t receiving its fair share of publicity, and for good reason. While I haven’t personally gotten my hands on one of these devices, I’ve heard many great things not only about Android 2.0 and the hardware, but about Verizon’s great coverage as well. With a large touch screen and nice camera, it’s not really a surprise that small lines formed by customers waiting to get their hands on one of these.
