Bullet point impressions: iPhone 4S

The iPhone 4S is now in the hands of millions of users, of which my wife is one. To her, it’s a giant upgrade from her 3GS. I’m holding on to my “so last year” iPhone 4 until 5 rolls around, although that’s just as much AT&T’s decision as it is my own. But I set the 4S up for her tonight and had some time to play around with it, and came away with the following quick impressions…

Apple makes the white iPhone 4 official

Finally, Apple has officially announced the white iPhone 4, which will go on sale in the US starting tomorrow, April 28. The white iPhone 4 will be available from AT&T and Verizon wireless stores, authorized resellers, Apple’s retail stores and from the Apple online store. Surprisingly, Apple is making the white iPhone 4 available simultaneously in other international countries, as well.

White iPhone 4 removed from the online Apple Store

If you’re like us—constantly checking the online Apple Store to seek out minute changes—you’d quickly see from the iPhone 4 landing page that the white iPhone 4 is no longer there. Previously, the white iPhone 4 was side by side with the black one, with a note below it saying it is currently unavailable. But as of this morning, the white iPhone is nowhere to be found.

White iPhone delayed until Spring 2011

For those who are still clinging to the hope that Apple will be releasing the much-coveted white iPhone 4, Apple is not making it available this year. As reported by Reuters, the white iPhone 4 might finally be available by Spring of 2011. The official announcement came from Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller: “We’re sorry to disappoint customers waiting for the white iPhone again.”

White iPhone 4 delayed because of button?

Wondering what’s up with that highly-desired white iPhone 4? Well, look what the site PocketLint found while attending a press event somewhere in New York; none other than the white iPhone 4 being used by a “mysterious man.” It appears to be the real thing, not your customized black iPhone 4 or a copycat imported from China. This man explained why he has it, and why you don’t.

White iPhone delays stem from glass supplier?

A report in the 21st Century Business Herald states that the delay in the white iPhone 4 derives from Lens Technology, the firm responsible for making raw glass usable for the iPhone 4. Lens Technology, whose clients include Lenovo, Motorola, Nokia, and others, have a tedious, multi-step process in place for manufacturing glass. But the delay comes from, you guessed it, the whiteness of the white iPhone 4 covers themselves.

Even more next gen iPhone images leaked, this time in white

Apple’s a lot like BP these days, except when Apple’s products start leaking, we get happy. Apple’s taken the black and white color options from the iPhone 3GS and taken it to the next level. Not only is the back white on this leaked iPhone’s body, the front is too. One thing to note, this is the older version of the still yet-to-be-released iPhone. The only real difference is the existence of screw holes on the bottom of the device by the speakers.

Weighing in the on the 3G iPhone

Literally. Although speculation on the size and appearance of the new iPhone was all over the place, the end result was just what seasoned Apple followers expected: a bit sleeker, and a bit shinier.

The 3G iPhone weighs in at 4.7 ounces or 133 grams, which is a whopping 2 grams less than the 135 gram 1G and 2G iPhones. It’s 0.48 inches thick, 2.4 inches wide and 4.5 inches high. These specs are almost identical to the previous iPhone models. To really see any change in the iPhone’s appearance, one has to look at the back, which is now solid plastic in black or white. Although I welcome the addition of the white model (hey, it matches my DS!), I’ll miss the two color effect of the original iPhone, which looked great sitting next to my 24″ iMac at work. The new black and white models are a better match for the MacBooks, I guess, but really, what am I? Some tweener fan of Hannah Montana-Cyrus and those Corey House twins? Who cares what the iPhone matches?

More iPhone specs and analysis after the break.

Are we really looking at a white 3G iPhone?

In the mood for some juicy rumors or a news item that may perk up your day? Here’s something from Dutch community site iPhoneclub.nl with some fresh pictures of a new iPhone model. No, we’re not speaking of the 3G iPhone, as we all know that is coming upon us – but rather of a new white iPhone with a curved back.

Apparently, the photos were sent by the source, who wants to remain anonymous for obvious reasons, to both iPhoneclub.nl and Macfreak.nl (these guys must be having the luckiest day for their sites by now). The source also said that those pictures came from a European accessory maker, probably preparing some nifty accessories to go along with the white iPhone.
