GREG’S PICK OF THE WEEK
Definitely, Maybe
Universal | 111 minutes | Price: $29.98

This week is host to a number of interesting releases. For starters, we get the long-overdue release of Early Edition: Season One. If not for Fisher Stevens’ annoying character, this show would be my unreserved pick. Still, this is a great series with an enchanting premise and it’s well worth your time. (And just try to watch Kyle Chandler now without hearing Coach Taylor. “Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose!”) In Bruges, Spiderwick and Charlie Bartlett are each intriguing for different reasons, but I haven’t seen them yet so watch for my reviews in the days and weeks ahead. The one movie I have seen and wholeheartedly recommend is Definitely, Maybe.

From the makers of Love Actually and Notting Hill, Definitely Maybe is the best romantic comedy since, well, Love Actually. Or Notting Hill. Ryan Reynolds turns in his best performance to date opposite Abigail Breslin as he tells his daughter the charming story of how he met her mother – without telling her (or us) who she is. Is she Isla Fisher, Elizabeth Banks or Rachel Weisz? Smartly written and refreshingly cliché-free, Definitely, Maybe is definitely one great little flick. DVD video looks fine enough – though here’s hoping we see a Blu-ray soon – and fans will enjoy the small handful of bonus material.

Holy high definition, Batman! Tune in next week for evil henchmen and chauvinist Mad Men!
