Philips will enter what promises to be a highly competitive Christmas selling season armed with the products it displayed at a New York-held “Holidays in June” showing Monday.

Among the audio, video, personal care and lighting solutions were some models from the company’s flat-panel LCD TV line – the first display of TV products since the April announcement that it would license sourcing, distribution, marketing and sales of its TVs in North America to Funai.

Once the agreement takes effect Sept. 1, said senior vice president for marketing management, A/V, for Philips’ North American Consumer Lifestyle Sales Organization, Andy Mintz, “together with Magnavox and Philips, we could be the third-largest TV company in the U.S. There is always a challenge to differentiate your products in this market, but we will work closely with Funai to that end.”

Philips, one of the first TV companies to promote ‘green’ TVs, has begun shipping its 42-inch Eco TV model, manufactured with lead-free components and flame-retardant materials and including energy-saving proprietary technologies that it says lowers LCD backlighting without altering picture quality. At $1,399, consumers are paying a premium for it, said Mintz, and even though right now, “green” TVs appeal to a narrow, niche consumer segment, “we’re going in that direction. We’re a big believer in ‘green.’”

Also on display:

• The DC912 iPod docking/speaker system ($179.99), allowing for the device to be mounted either vertically or horizontally on its front for widescreen video viewing.

• The HTS8100 six-speaker/single-chassis sound bar ($799.99) boasting a built-in DVD player and Philips’ Ambisound audio-enhancement technology.

• The Prestigo learning remote ($149), an alternative to the pricier Pronto remote but with a 2-inch-by-2.5-inch color LCD screen and scroll-wheel controller.

• The Streamium WACS7500 wlreless music system ($999.99), with an 80GB hard drive and Internet and HD Radio reception capability. which comes with a single outboard station but can link with up to five ($299.99 for each additional station).

• The AJL308 combination clock radio/7-inch digital photo frame/video player ($129.99).
