The Nintendo Wii has officially surpassed Microsoft’s Xbox 360 in cumulative sales to become the highest-selling console of its generation, despite being released a full year after its competitor, the Financial Times reported Wednesday.
FT cited combines sales figures from the NPD Group, Enterbrain, and GfK of Germany.
Through the end of July, the cumulative sales figures went 9 million for the Wii, 8.9 million for the 360, and just 3.7 million for the PS3. The movement puts Nintendo on top of the console market for the first time since the days of the Super NES.
