Sony has announced that it will relaunch its LocationFree place-shifting software, with a name shift as well: it will now be known as the Vaio LF-V30. The launch, scheduled for September, is timed to coincide with the start of the fall TV season.

The LocationFree player, much like the Slingbox, allows viewers to watch their own TV while away from home, through their PC. Sony launched LocationFree in early 2004, but it has now been folded into the Vaio brand. Sony had previously announced that it would include the LocationFree software on all new Vaio PCs.

New features on the latest version include input/output capability for viewing high-definition content, improved picture quality and onscreen graphics, and easier setup.

When it is released in the fall, the LF-V30 will have a suggested retail price of $250, and will be available at SonyStyle and other stores.
