Sonos, Inc. revealed Wednesday that they would be offering the Pandora personalized radio service on their Digital Music System as a part of the newly released Sonos System Software v 2.2. Pandora, a recommendation-based service that takes a user’s musical preferences and analyzes them to suggest other artists, is usually only available on PC’s. By combining with Sonos, the Pandora player becomes available without the use of a PC, allowing for up to 100 custom radio stations influenced and populated by the user’s favorite artists.
Users tell Pandora about their musical preferences using the Sonos Controller. The Sonos system then pipes the resulting radio stations to various rooms in the house. The Sonos/Pandora combo can play up to 32 different stations in 32 different rooms simultaneously – and if you have 33 rooms in your home, you can probably afford a second Sonos system.
The software upgrade is free to all Sonos users. The Pandora service is free for 30 days and costs $36 annually afterwards. For more information, visit: http://www.sonos.com/support/software_updates/
