A Fox News report reveals that according to a poll recently conducted by AP-AOL Games via Ispos, 40% of American adults play video games. Most of these gamers are minorities, male, and on the younger end of the “adult” scale. 45% of this activity occurs online, good news for the corporations behind the Xbox 360 and the upcoming PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii, all of which support online gaming. The most popular video games, however, don’t require Hi-Def. Board and card games top that list.

The poll also revealed that for most, the habit isn’t too expensive. Over 25% gamed for free last year, while 31% spent $100 or less. 11% spent over $500, but we’ll see if that figure changes this year with the release of PS3 and its $499 – $599 price tag. -David Thomas
