With Apple expected to finally unveil its long-awaited tablet device this week- and other major CE companies readying their own versions- research firm Retrevo last week released findings of a survey measuring consumer interest in such devices. It found that customers do have interest in a tablet- provided the price is right, and it boasts the right features.
According to Retrevo, when consumers were asked what features an Apple tablet would “absolutely need” to have, 75 percent of respondents answered “long battery life,” while 39 percent said access to 3G or similar networks.
As for what would prevent consumers from buying such a device, 44 percent said “required monthly data plan,” 34 percent answered “AT&T-only connectivity” and 22 percent said “lack of ebooks.”
Other features customers said they would like to see on the new device included solar charging (39 percent); a camera for video-conferencing (24 percent), and Wimax (22 percent.) But when asked whether a price point of over $700 would prevent them from buying the tablet, 70 percent of customers said “yes.”
Apple's long-awaited press event, at which the company will unveil its “latest creation,” is scheduled for Wednesday in San Francisco.
